Today’s Thoughts
Monsoon is building…there should be
moisture in the next 15 min.
The internet at my place today is like
playing Wack-a-mole. Century link is blaming it on the same tech issue that
shut down flights. The feed has been on and off since 6:30 this morning. They
promised to call when it is viable. Until then, I can only check the light on
my modem to know if I have internet. Very frustrating.
So, Biden exited the campaign. I know
it was a tough decision but hope this calms down the election process. About 30
minutes later he endorsed Harris to be the candidate. Now she needs to make a
VP nomination. I hope the country is ready for a female President.
I’m looking forward to the Paris Olympics
later this week. I hope it gives all athletes a chance to perform at their very
best.

United Arab Emirates - UAE Established
1.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was created on December
2nd when it established independence from the United Kingdom after
nearly 80 years of British rule.
2.
The UAE was formed as an autocratic federation of seven emirates each
controlled by a hereditary governor.
3.
The seven principalities are Abu Dhabi (which is also the capital), Ajman,
Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaiman, Sarjah, and Umm al-Quwain.
4.
The nation has become strikingly diverse and modern partially due to its
location on the Persian Gulf.
5.
It has large number of immigrants (only around 15% of the population are native
citizens), and its oil industry makes it one of the wealthiest nations in the
world.
Phrases used by Old-er People that younger people might not
understand
“You Can’t Have Your
Cake and Eat It Too”
One of
the more commonly used boomer phrases today, this one means that you can’t have
everything; compromises are necessary. The saying emphasizes that decisions
often involve trade-offs and expresses practicality and the need to prioritize.
Consider using it yourself next time someone you know is struggling to
compromise!
Did you Know…?
In January 1844, Mormon leader Joseph
Smith announced he was a candidate for President of the US. The campaign had
not caught on when he was assassinated in July 1844. Mormons are saying he should
be listed as one of the Presidential candidates in history who was assassinated
while running for President.
Historic Events
- 1342 – The St. Mary Magdalene’s
flood in central Europe killed thousands of people.
- 1376 (?) The Pied Piper of
Hamelin musically took the children from the town when they refused to pay
a debt. It may have happened in 1284. It probably never happened.
- 1587 – The second group of
English settlers arrives on Roanoke Island off North Carolina to
re-establish the deserted colony. #croatoan
