Today’s Quote                                                        Today’s Meme

Today’s Thoughts

Quarterly vision checkup went well. No new issues. Old ones under control.

The Trump events of the weekend have me stunned and saddened. I am glad that Trump only received minor injury from the assassination attempt on Saturday. Like many Americans, I don’t like to admit that we live in a violent political society. It is much easier to think that political violence always happens ‘way over there’ in another part of the world. Neither political party nor candidate is exempt from raising the temperature in this Presidential election cycle. Media outlets that take a violent sound bite and play it over and over are not exempt. I’m going to listen carefully to what each candidate/party has to say before I vote in November.

On Monday morning I was very surprised that the Trump trial on Classified documents was dismissed by the judge. I’m sure there will be appeals. This sure looks like a political move as the Republican Convention began this morning.

Then Trump announces his VP will be Sen. J D Vance of Ohio. It is time to read up on this populist conservative who opposes abortion, marriage equality, and seems to want a bigger wall.

Phrases used by Old-er People that younger people might not understand

“Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket”

You may have heard this phrase before, but if you’re not a boomer, you likely haven’t used it yourself. It means not to risk everything on one venture. According to Poem Analysis, the phrase first came to be in the 17th century, though boomers used it frequently to emphasize the value of prudence and forethought.

False Facts about religions

Nirvana Is a Place

Nirvana isn’t like heaven or Valhalla, which are places where nobles go to receive rewards for their good deeds. Instead, as Britannica clarifies, it is a mental state characterized by the absence of suffering. It also signifies the end of the cycle of birth and rebirth (samsara).

Historic Events

·         622 – The beginning of the Islamic (354 day) calendar.

·         1790 – The District of Columbia was established as the capital of the United States.

·         1945 – The ‘Fat Boy’ atomic bomb was tested near Alamogordo, New Mexico.

·         1969 – Apollo 11 was launched to the Moon.

·         1994 – Comet Shoemaker-Levy crashed into Jupiter.

…The End for today…
