Today’s Quote                                                        Today’s Meme

"In summer, the song sings itself."

— William Carlos Williams

Today’s Thoughts

Still hot but the monsoon returned last night.

Yesterday I went to my friend KB’s Celebration of Life in Tuba. It was a nice service. It was very good to see all his extended family and our mutual friends and hunting buddies from my time in Tuba. I didn’t get back to Flag until about 6pm.

I started teaching at Shonto Boarding School in 1971. At that time it was a BIA school K-8 with 900+ students with 4 large dormitories. I transferred to Tuba Boarding after 5 years. I still have great memories of my early days on the Rez at Shonto. I even ended up being the Acting Principal one summer when I was an administrator at Tuba. On Friday a local from Shonto posted some pictures of the school. Since it was first opened in 1969 the grounds had grass everywhere and was known in the BIA world as the most beautiful campus in the system. Today the student population has fallen to about 200 students and the now old campus has changed. There were pictures of the tearing down of Dorm 2 that housed the 2nd-5th graders. There was nothing but tumbleweeds around the building. Sometimes it is hard to see and understand change.

 1969 was 55 years ago…

Phrases used by Old-er People that younger people might not understand

“Catch You on the Flip Side”

Another way to say “see you later” or “talk to you soon,” “catch you on the flip side” is kind of like imagining yourself chatting with someone on an old-school vinyl record, and when the song is over (on the A-side), you’ll catch them on the flip side (the B-side). It’s a fun and quirky way to say goodbye that harks back to when vinyl records were a popular way to listen to music.

False Facts about religions

The Caste System Is Integral to Hinduism

Hinduism and the caste system have been intertwined in Indian societies for centuries, and now they’re conflated to be sourced from the same religious teachings. In reality, the caste system is only a social construct, and some modern Hindu reform movements reject the idea of it.
