Today’s Thoughts

It’s warm, but the Monsoon is building so it will cool things off nicely.

I’m guessing that many citizens of the world are now more aware how dependent the world is on the internet and how a tiny mistake in an upgrade can shut down many things in our daily lives. Yesterday I had go inside the bank to withdraw some cash. The outside ATM had the blue screen, but the inside one didn’t. Turns out they are run on two different networks. Hmm. Andy and Faith could not get any gas after our lunch as all the gas stations in East Flag were on a network that was offline. The pumps didn’t work and the registers inside didn’t work, so all were closed. We should all be demanding that tech companies set up better protocols before upgrading their systems.

This reminded me of my days as a cashier at the grocery store.  I was trained to use a hand crank on the register if the power went out. I only had to use it a couple of times in the seven years I worked in the business at several different grocery stores, but I certainly knew how to use it. The hardest part was reading the stamped price on the items in the dim light.

Phrases used by Old-er People that younger people might not understand

“Mind Your Ps and Qs”

You may have heard your boomer parent or grandparent use this phrase. It means to be on one’s best behavior and possibly originates from bartenders reminding patrons to watch their alcohol consumption. Essentially, the phrase is a reminder to be polite and behave appropriately.

False Facts about religions

Christianity Is a Western Religion

Given how widespread it is in the West and how the West has helped promote Christianity to the rest of the world, it’s easy to believe that the faith originated there. In actuality, Christianity is a Middle Eastern religion that spread to other parts of Asia and even North Africa before reaching Europe.

Historic Events

·         1861 – Confederate troops defeated the Union at the (1st) Battle of Bull Run.
