Today’s Thoughts
It looks like our
town is in for an early heat wave this week.
Over the weekend,
there were four small forest fires around Flagstaff. All were quickly
contained. No structures were involved.
Many conservative
politicians are now babbling about how Hunter Biden has destroyed our country
while his trial jury is being selected. Other conservatives babble in a hearing
how Dr. Fauci has destroyed our country by his uninformed handling of the Covid.
I certainly don’t approve of Hunter Biden’s escapades or think that Fauci is
infallible. I’m just tired of the uniformed finger pointing by these guys and
gals.
Indigenous People to Know
Wilma
Mankiller
One of
Time magazine's 100 Women of the Year in 2020, Wilma Mankiller was the first
woman to be appointed Principal Chief of Cherokee Nation. Mankiller faced
discrimination and racism growing up, which fueled her commitment to feminism
and self-governance for Indigenous people. The Cherokee community thrived under
her two terms as Principal Chief. She passed away in 2010, leaving a legacy of
prosperity, pride, and hope.
Origin of common phrases
No dice
"No dice"
means no deal or no result. It comes from states where gambling was illegal in
the early 1900s. Gamblers would hide the dice if they were caught, and courts
would toss out gambling cases if no dice were found
