Today’s Thoughts
There are lots of clouds
in our sky, but precipitation is not in the forecast.
On June 10, 1939, my
parents were married. After lots of trying, in March 1949 I was adopted. Two
years and 8 months later my brother was adopted. We lived in a loving home, my
brother and I both graduated from college. My parents were married for 56
years, until my father passed at 80. It was very nice growing up in a middle-class
home with a loving family. Both parents are still missed today.
The Israeli war
cabinet head has resigned. This could change the whole war.
I’m hoping this
upcoming week will be a tad cooler that last week’s hear wave.
Indigenous People to Know
Deb
Haaland
Deb
Haaland made history in March 2021 when she was confirmed as U.S. Cabinet
secretary. The first cabinet secretary of Indigenous American heritage, Haaland
is at the forefront of conservation efforts and the fight against climate change,
telling NPR that she believes tribal consultation is necessary when addressing
environmental issues. Regarded as a "barrier-breaking public servant"
by the Biden administration, Haaland is positioned to play a pivotal role in
the movement toward a greener future.
Origin of common phrases
Kangaroo court
"Kangaroo court"
goes back to the 19th-century U.S. frontier days, when roaming judges tried
legal cases. They were paid by the trial, and a kangaroo court refers to the
image of them hopping from case to case to try as many as possible.
