Today’s Thoughts

Monsoon due soon on this nice summer day.

I got an email that it was time to change my oil, and it contained a $10 of coupon. I have an appointment for late this afternoon.

The Olympics continue to keep me busy. Track and field events are great.

Mary is still at the beach house. She called yesterday. She is having a great time with a few bumps due to pain in her neck from the old bed she slept on and more ankle pain, even with her boot from the therapist. She will be back late next week.

July was the 2nd hottest month here in Flag since records began in 1899.

Tim Walz, VP candidate, began his teaching/coaching career on the Pine Ridge Reservation. I’m still checking my Rez contacts to find out which school. So far, it looks like it was a BIA school. That’s cool.

American History…

What was the deadliest battle in American history

Incorrect: The storming of Normandy (D-Day) Correct: The Battle of Antietam

While there were at least 4,414 confirmed Allied deaths on D-Day, that doesn't compare to the number of lives lost on Sept. 17, 1862, during the Battle of Antietam. Right outside of Sharpsburg, Maryland, the brutal Civil War battle resulted in nearly 23,000 American casualties.
