Today’s Thoughts

Another Monsoon Day is dumping more rain. Yes!

This mornings Women’s Soccer between Brazil and USA was a great game. USA gets another gold. Lots of track today. Very nice. The Women’s 4X4 relay brought us another gold.

Breaking has never been on my sport’s list. I was at least a decade or two older than the early break dancers back in the day. I saw some men’s and women’s breaking in Paris today. I must say I saw some real athletic talent in the breaking I watched. I hope it catches on with the Olympic games. Too bad, that as of now, it won’t be in LA in 2028.

PBS did a deep dive into homelessness in Maricopa County (Phoenix). Climate change is bringing very long hot heat waves. Last summer, 675 died from heat related issues. So far, 440 have died from heat related issues. In 2013, 1220 people died from heat related issued in the United States. Phoenix and our state needs to do more to protect the homeless during heat waves.

30 years ago, I wonder how many people had ever uttered the words “My phone got stolen.”

Why was Chicago nicknamed the Windy City?© Provided by Best Life

Incorrect: It's really windy! Correct: It's home to a whole lot of "windbag" politicians

While Chicago certainly does experience some blustery weather, the name has nothing to do with the outdoor elements. In fact, according to one USA Today report, Chicago doesn't even crack the top 10 windiest cities in the country.

Chi-town likely picked up its nickname because of the "long-winded" politicians who rose to power during the 19th century. It's unclear when exactly the moniker was first used, but it became such a ubiquitous term in newspapers throughout the 1800s that it just stuck—for good.Events
