Today’s Thoughts

I woke up to an overcast day. This is very unusual for this time of year. It has been raining on and off and is much cooler than the past week. It’s OK because our forest needs this moisture.

It is pre-season football. Cards lost to the Colts yesterday. Broncos play today at 5p, and the game will be on my TV. Can’t wait to watch a live Bronco’s came.

This morning there was a 7.0 magnitude volcanic eruption on the East Coast of Russia. The ash column was 5 miles high. There are no reports of injuries.

 Riddles NEW

How many three-cent stamps are in a dozen?

Answer below

Random Thoughts…

US President #1 President George Washington (1789-1797) Despite rumors, his teeth were made of ivory, not wood. You can visit them at the National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore, Md.

The “Dog Days of Summer” meaning comes from the dog star Sirius, and that the star would rise just before the sun mid-summer (the hottest days of the year).

The AOL “Welcome” & “You’ve Got Mail” sounds were recorded in 1989 on a cassette deck.

American History…

What species did Benjamin Franklin want as our national bird?

Incorrect: Turkey Correct: C'mon—it was a joke

In a 1784 letter to his daughter, Benjamin Franklin wrote about the new American seal, and the bird emblazoned on it. "For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country," Franklin wrote. "He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labor of the Fishing Hawk."

Instead, Franklin had an alternative suggestion: the turkey. "For the Truth, the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America… He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on."

Yeah, he was joking.

Riddles Answer

This riddle tries to trick people with numbers, but it’s actually simple. Regardless of what kinds of items are in one dozen, there will only ever be 12 because one dozen equals 12 items.
