Today’s Quote                                                        Today’s Meme

Simplicity is the keynote of all true elegance.

--Coco Chanel

Today’s Thoughts

Not a cloud in the sky. It is warm and a little breezy. Great day.

Yesterday’s discussion group went very well. We didn’t solve the climate crisis, but certainly had a plethora of ideas on how to begin.

The world is watching Iran as the President’s helicopter has crashed. At this time, it appears suspicious. This has the potential of adding more chaos to our world.

When the new elected government officials are sworn in, in addition to the standing for the Constitution and all that other stuff, please add: “I do solemnly swear to be an adult in all my verbal and written material and will resign immediately if I fail.”

Did you Know?

Origin of common phrases

Leaf peeper

In New England, visitors who arrive in the autumn to enjoy the colorful foliage, and are a big part of the rural tourist economy, are "leaf peepers." The term most likely came from Vermont in the mid-20th century.

Historic Events

*      1862 – President Abraham Lincoln signed the Homestead Act, opening 84 million acres of public land to settlers.

*      1883 – Krakatoa began to erupt; the volcano exploded three months later, killing more than 36,000 people.

*      1940 – The first prisoners arrived at Auschwitz concentration camp.

*      1956 – In Operation Redwing, the first United States airborne hydrogen bomb was dropped over Bikini Atoll

59 – Ted Allen, American television host and author

56 – Timothy Olyphant, American actor

“The basic thing a man should know is how to change a tire and how to drive a tractor. Whatever that bearded dude is doing on the Dos Equis beer commercials sets the bar. That’s your guy. Every man should be aiming to be like him. The beard is just the tip of the iceberg.”

52 – Busta Rhymes (Trevor George Smith Jr. ), American rapper

32 – Jack Gleeson, Irish actor

“You need to sweat yourself. Don’t sweat nobody else.”

@89 – James Stewart, American actor (d. 1997)

“Fear is an insidious and deadly thing. It can warp judgment, freeze reflexes, breed mistakes. Worse, it’s contagious.”

@71 – George Gobel, American comedian (d. 1991; after surgery)
