Thoughts for the day

It looks like the monsoon will drop some more rain before moving on. Yes!

Flagstaff received 1.1” of rain in August…that is well below the average of 3.1” for August.

I grew up with the Dept. of Defense and I see no reason for Trump to change it back to Dept. of War. I always like thinking, that dept. is defending our world, and not starting wars.

If you look at your electricity bill, you know it has been going up every month. A good portion of the rise is due to Artificial Intelligence’s need for a huge amount of electricity 24/7. Notice that when a tree falls on a powerline in your area and cuts off electricity, the electric company’s crew is there to get it back online. There is no bill in the mailbox for fixing the power. That’s because the law allows the electric utilities to spread that cost to all their customers. As AI demands more and more electricity, the company builds more plants and spreads the cost to all its customers. There must be a better way.

The Afghan refugees who helped the USA during the war and were evacuated to our country have just lost their temporary Visa status. There are still an estimated 78,000 who helped the USA who are still sitting in Afghanistan, hoping to get out. How will any local citizens help us in our next war when they hear these stories? There are still many current and former USA combatants who are trying to help those who helped and are still stuck in Afghanistan.

Myths from Medieval Times

Even Peasants Had Table Manners

Do not believe Monty Python--people in the Middle Ages were not always rude and brash. Everyone knew table manners and basic hygiene. Before people sat down to eat, they always washed their hands. Guests were expected not to make rude or offensive jokes, especially in front of ladies.

People waited for everyone to be served before eating. If a dog sat under the table, people were expected not to feed them. Of course, the nobility had more strict etiquette rules than the lower classes. But everyone had manners in the Middle Ages.

Things That Worked Better Before They Were “Improved” by Technology

Record Players That Let You Feel the Music

While streaming services give us instant access to millions of songs, they’ve taken away the ritual of playing vinyl records. The process of carefully placing the needle, reading album notes, and experiencing that warm analog sound created a deeper connection to the music. Plus, album artwork was large enough to actually appreciate, unlike today’s tiny digital thumbnails.
