Thoughts for the day

Another day of intermittent monsoon rain. Nice!

I had lunch with Andy and Faith. Good food and great conversation.

I have ridden on a number of funiculars in my travels. Watching the funicular crash in Lisbon Portugal was difficult.

Due to all the moisture, Coconino County, including Flagstaff, has had fire restrictions lifted. That’s good news, but those in the forest must remain vigilant.

I tired to no avail to write my congressmen to release the Epstein files in whole. His website, after verifying that I was in his district, would not accept my landline or cell phone number. I couldn’t send him a message. I’ll try again tomorrow.

I wrote that letter after hearing numerous female survivors who spoke out on the Capitol steps yesterday. Those who abused these women need to be punished to the full extent of the law.

Myths from Medieval Times

The Middle Ages Were Not Lawless

Despite what some movies portray, the Middle Ages were not lawless. Citizens had laws, punishments, and trials. The 12-person jury first emerged in the 13th century, and capital punishment was on the table for some criminals.

Less life-threatening laws also existed. Merchants had to pay taxes, and they could declare bankruptcy if needed. When envoys traveled, they had diplomatic immunity. Many citizens in Spain, France, and Germany owned property, and they brought these laws to the Americas. The legal system was not too different from today, really.

Things That Worked Better Before They Were “Improved” by Technology

Cameras With Real Viewfinders

Digital cameras and smartphones have made photography more accessible than ever, but there’s something lost when viewing your subject on a screen instead of through a proper viewfinder. Old SLR cameras let you see exactly what you were shooting, worked without batteries, and helped you focus on composition rather than endless settings.

Random Thoughts…

Every time you hear footsteps behind you, it might not be your imagination—it could be someone who stopped when you turned around. 🦶

The air we breathe might carry whispers from people who lived centuries ago. 🌬️

What if the stars in the sky are just holes poked into a giant sheet covering Earth?

If I get up 10 minutes earlier than usual, I treat it like 2 extra hours and end up late for work.
