Thoughts for the day

A very nice late summer day. Just a tad windy.

I had a good visit with my Primary Care guy. I’ve lost another 8 lbs., my A1C was 5.9 so my diabetic meds are being cut in half and he is very pleased with my overall picture. Also, he has been having back problems, including wearing a brace, for the past year. Today he looked much better. He had a back procedure a few months ago and it fixed his problems too.

Today is my mother’s birthday. She had a good life for 89 years and is still missed.

The idea that Israel attacked Qatar to kill Hamas leaders, in Qatar to participate in peace talks, is not acceptable. It is time our government had a real sit-down serious talk with the Israel government.

I was sad to hear of the shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado. When I was in Elementary School a neighbor with 2 girls similar to our age had a cabin in Evergreen. We visited several times. They later moved to Evergreen full time.

I don’t think I will ever understand why some believe that killing someone who disagrees with your political views is acceptable. If only there was a way to stop it. Wait, there is, but too many are afraid of reasonable gun control.

Myths from Medieval Times

Witch Hunts Were Not Common In The Middle Ages

Pop quiz: when did the European witch hunts happen? If you guessed the 13th, 14th, or 15th centuries, you're too early. Major European witch hunts did not begin until the Early Modern Period, between 1550 and 1700.

Witch trials were not common during the Middle Ages. Some religious leaders, such as Pope Gregory VII, did not believe in witches and requested that people did not search for them. But others still believed in witchcraft. In 1487, clergyman Heinrich Kramer wrote the infamous Malleus Maleficarum which explained how to spot and condemn a witch.

 Wrong Common Knowledge

You Only Use 10% of Your Brain

This one has been around for ages, but it’s completely false. Brain scans show that people use all parts of their brain, even when they’re resting. Different areas become active depending on what you’re doing, but no part of your brain just sits there unused.
