Thoughts for the day

I looks like a windy day.

The Denver Broncos announced the construction of a new stadium that will have a retractable roof. It should be ready by 2031.

It has been years since 9/11 and as we honor that horrific day, we will never forget.

Yesterday, the son of one of my former students stopped by. He is 34 and has a 5-year-old son, born on the same day as my brother. Avron, the child, is in first grade and is being referred for testing for the gifted program in Winslow. They were on their way to dinner to celebrate. It was cool visit.

Andy and Faith are in Phoenix. Kayla had surgery yesterday and is recovering. Faith called to ask me to put a package that arrived early in the freezer in the garage.

After putting the package in the freezer, I went outside to push the button to close the garage door. The door would move about an inch and stop. I tried several times with no success. I called Andy, who was at the dentist. He walked me through a fairly complicated procedure to close the garage door, so inside the house, put in the alarm code and leave by the front door. I was a little nervous with all the steps, but it all worked out. I hope I don’t have to remember how to do that again. Haha.

Myths from Medieval Times

Medieval People Had Pharmacies

When Medieval people wanted medicine, they did not always have to enlist a physician or a cunning man. Many towns in the Middle Ages had pharmacies. The first pharmacy opened in Baghdad, 754. They became popular in the Arabic world, and by the 12th century, they spread to Europe.

Apothecary shops were operated by pharmacists who studied for the job, similar to today. By the Renaissance, many nuns took over the pharmacist job, especially in Italy. Pharmacists became more skilled and even developed classes in the 15th and 16th centuries.

 Wrong Common Knowledge

Bats Are Blind

You’ve probably heard the phrase “blind as a bat,” but the vast majority of bats can actually see just fine. While they do rely on echolocation to find their way around in the dark, they also have functional eyesight. Some species can even see better than humans in low light.
