Thoughts for the day
Happy to report that Andy is doing
well, still a little sore. He usually sleeps on the injured side, so sleep was
difficult, but he is up and moving around and eating so he is well on to full
recovery.
I’m hoping that Camille and Wes are
surviving the hurricane with no big problems. They are in different parts of
the state and I can’t tell from the maps on the TV.
I didn’t realize that the US Secret
Service also protects foreign dignitaries who come to speak at the UN. That
includes those who are opening against the US. I’m sure that makes the job more
difficult.
Riddles
The person who makes it has no need
for it; the person who buys it has no use for it. The person who uses it can
neither see nor feel it. What is it?
Random Thoughts…
During the filming of The Passion of
the Christ, both Jim Caviezel (who played Christ) and assistant director Jan
Michelini got hit by lightning. Michelini got hit twice.
The sound of Krakatoa erupting was so
loud that it circled the Earth four times!
If you only swat the slowest
mosquitoes, the fastest will survive and they will get faster with every
generation.
Draco was an Ancient Greek legislator
who wrote the first code of law in Athens. Over time his laws were seen as
increasingly harsh and punitive, which is why we say a law is “draconian” when
the punishment is too extreme for the crime.
If you ever feel like you don’t have
any good ideas, know that someone is living in a mansion right now because of
dino-shaped chicken nuggets.
Slang Words…
I gotta put me first
- Pop culture reference point:
"Empire" (2019)
In a memorable scene from the TV drama
"Empire," protagonist Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) affirms her
self-performance, shouting multiple times, "I gotta put me first!"
The dramatic scene has become a popular meme on TikTok as users lip-sync to an
audio clip of the moment to joke about moments in which they were
hyperbolically selfish or self-centered in various situations.
Historic Events
- 1066 – William the Conqueror
landed in England, beginning the Norman conquest.
- 1941 – Ted Williams achieved
a .406 batting average for the season, and was the last MLB player to bat
.400 or better.
- 1951 – CBS unsuccessfully
launched their own color televisions; a different system became popular
later.
