Today’s Quote

I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls. Martin Luther King Jr

Thoughts for the day

A nice day, with a little wind.

I began my BIA career on Sept. 20, 1971. It was a great career I am glad I accomplished. I honestly believe I was taught more than I ever taught to my students.

It looks like another government shutdown in 11 days and counting. This do-nothing congress is living up to its reputation. So sad.

The problem I see with these government shutdowns, is that congress…the deciders of the shutdown…pay virtually no consequences. Not to the vast majority of government employees, as when the government shuts down and employees go home, the return in a day or two with no effect on their pay. That make it seem harmless. However, it is not harmless. Many businesses with government contracts must wait longer for their pay, meaning their employees must also wait. After going through several shutdowns during and after Reagan, the only thing that will stop them is that Congress pay also stops and is not repaid.

I have my diabetes under good control, thanks to medications and my CGM…continuous glucose monitor. When I started the CGMs they were $40 for 3 months. They were so much better than finger stickling. Then somehow Medicare got the contracts for CGMs. Since then, I have only had 1 on time delivery. I’ve had the same primary doctor forever. The staff is very good at answering questions, replying to necessary faxes etc. I was due for a new 90- day supply. I got an email that my Primary had not responded. I called and the Primary never got a call or fax. I called the company that has the contract. They said they sent 4 faxes and made 6 phone calls for information. I stopped by the Primary’s office and together we called the company. They had the wrong fax. They somehow also had a different phone number for the doctor. They have used the correct number before. The office sent the necessary ‘notes’ while I was standing there. About an hour after I got home, the company called and verified my name and said they were ready to send out the CGMs. The next question threw me…Are you currently in a hospital or long-term care facility? I said NO in a rather irritated manner. She said ‘OK, they will be shipped out today.’ Had the lady spent 3 minutes reviewing my last recorded phone call, she would know that I was standing in the Drs. office about an hour earlier talking to their company to get my CMGs.

Slang Words…

Excuse me, bruh

- Pop culture reference point: "Zoolander" (2001)

Thanks to the popular video-sharing platform TikTok, phrases from older movies are reclaiming their place in the current cultural lexicon. Just look at the phrase "excuse me, bruh" from the 2001 comedy "Zoolander," which has become a popular sound on the app.

In the film, this line is uttered when Ben Stiller's character Derek Zoolander bumps into his rival Hansel (Owen Wilson) in a club, leading to a standoff between them in which Derek replies, "You're excused, and I'm not your bruh." To date, the quote has been used in TikToks that have collectively racked up more than 200 million views.
