Today’s Thoughts
Blue, cloudless sky
and breezy.
I didn’t post
yesterday because I was having problems with my cable TV. Optimum has THE WORST customer service. The
answering bot said they have to reboot my box as there were no outages in the
area. It says it will talk about 30 minutes to get my guide back. Well, it
takes a good two hours. I called around noon because I didn’t have any Phoenix
stations. I called again around 3pm and the bot said they had to reboot. This
one took 15 minutes and that didn’t fix it. I asked to speak to a
representative. He apologized for my loss of signa. He checked and there was an
outage. He said it would take about 4 more hours to fix it and that the problem
had started over a day ago. I guess the bot couldn’t check its emails to learn
of the outage. The human promised to call me back as soon as it was fixed. I
made sure he had my cell number. About 6pm the Phoenix channels were back. I
discovered it my using my remote to put in a Phoenix channel. This morning
about 8a I got a call on my landline telling me the issue was resolved. Then
another call about 11a with the same message. Both times I clicked ‘2: problem
resolved’. What a waste of my time.
Trump has closed the
Kennedy Center for 2 years to have renovations. I guess he thinks that all the
performers who have cancelled appearances did it due to the dilapidated condition
of the venue.
The AZ Cardinals
have a new coach…Mike LaFleur from the Rams. I still believe nothing will
change until ownership changes.
Trivia
Agatha Christie’s first novel
was rejected six times.
Despite
her literary success, Agatha Christie’s writing career took some time to
launch; her first novel, The Mysterious Affair
at Styles,
was rejected six times before
publication. Christie, who had an interest in storytelling as a child, took her
first stab at writing thanks to a bet with her sister, Madge. In The
Mysterious Affair, her long-featured detective
Hercule Poirot made his entrance, investigating a poisoning. It wasn’t until 1920, some four years
after she began writing, that Christie’s thriller was finally printed; her
description and use of poisons from knowledge gained as a
World War I nurse even
landed the novel a favorable review in a pharmaceutical journal. Christie’s
first book made such an impact that she even named her home Styles after the
story’s setting.
