Today’s Thoughts

It sure looks like another storm is headed this way. Windy and cloudy day.

I’ve been wearing a dental guard to stop grinding teeth while I sleep for years. Brushing it with toothpaste, as my previous dentist recommended, doesn’t really cut it.  I saw an ad for a sonic cleaner, did some research, and bought a different one. I’ve had it for a couple of days. Due to the gunk buildup, I run it twice every morning. It has done a fantastic job. I’ll get back to the recommended once very soon. I am very happy with this purchase.

While I’m not a fan of RFK, Jr., I am glad that he is questioning all the ‘ultra-processed’ food we consume daily. The first directive should be to define ‘ultra-processed’, then identify those foods. We will probably never get rid of them, but the consumer should know which foods are nutritional and which are not. It is obvious that company sales are based on profit and not on our nutritional needs.

Since our founding, America has been proud of naming things after discoverers, heroes, leaders in their field, and many more. Many Americans have built things that they name after themselves. I like those traditions. I am not happy with anyone naming things after him/herself that they didn’t create or finance. Let future generations do that or it isn’t meaningful.

Historic Trivia

Ancient Romans used urine as a cleaning agent for laundry

They didn't have soap back then, so they had to improvise. And, it turns out, stagnant urine was full of ammonia, which we still use to clean today.

The Aztec capital Tenochtitlan (where Mexico City now stands) was larger and more sophisticated than many European cities when the Spanish arrived in 1519.

With an estimated population of 200,000–300,000 inhabitants, Tenochtitlan was significantly larger than London (which only had 50,000–70,000 people), and Paris (about 200,000).

Tenochtitlan's infrastructure was better, too, with advanced aqueducts, causeways, floating agricultural fields, and even efficient waste management systems.

The Spaniards' siege and the aftermath all but destroyed the great city that was.
