Thoughts for the day

Apologies for no blog yesterday. When I have my blood treatment, part of it is Benadryl. Yesterday’s treatment made me very sleepy. I slept through most of the 4 hour treatment. I hadn’t eaten breakfast, so the Benadryl hit me harder than usual. When I got home, I sat in my recliner and watched TV. This morning I’m back to my normal awake soft.

On Sunday, the Cards blew a nice lead to lose to the Colts. Then Sunday evening my phone had a tornado alert. This is unheard of, but a big storm hit the Rez between Tolani Lake and Leupp and radar said there might be a tornado and the storm was heading for the Winslow area. There were no reports of touchdowns.  They issued the alert because at night it is very difficult to see a tornado. Duh…

Numerous US airports are refusing to show Noem’s video that blames Dems for the shutdown and therefore airline delays. Many airport leaders are saying it is a violation of the Hatch Act. Good for them.

I’m not surprised but I am angry that Trump took back Columbus Day in one of this executive orders. We all know that Columbus did not discover America. We all know that Columbus and his crew brought smallpox and other diseases to the indigenous people of this area, and he took about 500 individuals as slaves for his homeland. There are almost 10 million enrolled tribal members and there are about 17 million people with Italian ancestry. On a personal note: I taught Navajo students for almost 2 decades. Every year, as the Federal Holiday rolled around, it was difficult to explain to children what the Holiday was about. Labor Day, Veterans’ Day, Christmas, and President’s Day were much easier to explain.

Anniversaries in 2025…

1965 Voting Rights Act, 60 Years

President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act on August 6, 1965, days after the Selma to Montgomery marches. The law banned literacy tests and created federal oversight for places with histories of discrimination. Selma’s Edmund Pettus Bridge bears plaques about “Bloody Sunday,” March 7, 1965. Walkers should use the bridge’s pedestrian lane and watch curb edges. The 60th is a good time to look up registration rules in your state and learn how districts are drawn on public maps.

Americans Missing From Your History Textbook

Charles R. Drew’s Blood Plasma Banks

Charles Drew refined methods to separate and store plasma, organized transatlantic shipments in wartime, and designed systems that turned donations into reliable supply. Hospitals could finally hold lifesaving blood products long enough to meet crises rather than hope the right type arrived by chance. His stand against segregated blood also reshaped policy. The legacy is practical and profound. Modern trauma care, disaster response, and routine surgery all move faster because storage became science.

Random Thoughts…

The Japanese flag could be a pie chart of how much of Japan is Japan.

There is no real reason behind the order of the alphabet ...ponder upon that.

You would worry a lot less about what people think of you if you realized how little they actually do.
