Today’s Thoughts
A cloudy day with some hope for moisture.
Possibility is only at 30%.
Colorado is also in need of moisture.
They just reported the lowest snowpack since 1941 when record keeping began.
The snowpack was only 26% of the median.
My meds arrived this morning about
11:00. I was home Friday when they claim they came, but I believe they didn’t
ring the doorbell…even with my sign. Just glad to have them…finally.
I grew up when almost everyone
believed that when the US President spoke, everyone listens. I don’t seem to
break that belief. Today, Trump had a press conference to tell us about the
recuse of the back-seat pilot after he ejected over Iran. He had all his minions
on stage with him. I know it was a great recovery. I thank the many military personnel
who found him and brought him out. It is sad that he doesn’t realize that his
language and side comments are not necessary.
Right after his conference, CNN was
covering Artemis II live coverage. That is amazing. I feel NASA is doing a
great job of educating us to the mission, the astronauts, and the history is
being made. Very cool.
Strange Historical Facts
A 75-Year
War Ended Without a Single Casualty
The Three
Hundred and Thirty Five Years’ War was fought between the Netherlands and the
Isles of Scilly, a small archipelago off the coast of England. It began in 1651
and was never officially ended — until a historian brought it to everyone’s
attention in 1985, at which point the Dutch ambassador traveled to Scilly and
signed a peace treaty.
Not one
person died during those 335 years of “conflict.”
Marie
Curie's Notebooks Are Still Radioactive
Curie
died in 1934 from aplastic anemia caused by radiation exposure. Her personal
notebooks — along with her cookbook — are so contaminated that they’re stored
in lead-lined boxes in France.
Researchers
who want to study them must sign a waiver and wear protective gear. The
notebooks will remain radioactive for another 1,500 years or so.
Her dedication to science was, in the most literal sense, written in her own health.
Native American Phrases That Subtly Shaped American English
Water is Life
Drawn from many Native cultures,
including the Lakota phrase “Mní wiÄhóni,” the saying underscores the
sacredness of water as a source of life, as highlighted by Grist. It’s not just
a resource—it’s a living entity deserving respect and protection. The phrase
gained renewed attention during environmental movements and protests against
water pollution.
Over time, “water is life” has
become a rallying cry for ecological awareness. It carries both literal and
symbolic meaning, reminding people that survival depends on a healthy
relationship with nature. Its Indigenous roots keep the message grounded in centuries
of environmental stewardship.
