Today’s Thoughts

Spring means wind over here. Another windy day. Getting a little tired of this.

The Onion, a satire group, has purchased Infowars, a far-right news organization with Alex Jones. This should be very interesting.

Tucker Carlson said he made a mistake supporting Trump. He apologized to his followers. He didn’t mention any of his fake news stories his followers heard. It come soon after Trump posted negatively about Tucker.

Teotihuacan Pyramids in Mexico had a shooting that killed one and left 13 wounded including 6 Americans. This is a huge tourist venue that is about 30 miles from Mexico City. The shooter committed suicide. No reason for the attack was given but the shooter admired Adolph Hitler, had a picture of the two students who did the shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. It was the on the 27th anniversary of that terror.

Today is Earth Day. The first Earth Day was in 1970.  I was doing my student-teaching during the 2nd Earth Day. My class project was to help clean up. It was a great success and the students really enjoyed the experience. I hope those students are still cleaning up their trash.

How well do you know the U.S. states?

Alaska has more coastline than the rest of the U.S. combined

Alaska’s size is already impressive: it’s the largest state in the country by far, over twice the size of Texas (the second largest state by area). But what surprises many people is just how much coastline it has.

With over 33,900 miles of shoreline, including islands, Alaska has more coastline than all the other U.S. states combined. Its rugged shores stretch along the Arctic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Bering Sea.

Random historical facts you didn’t know

Alexander the Great was accidentally buried alive

When Alexander the Great died in Babylon in 323 BCE, his body didn’t begin to show signs of decomposition for six days. But today's scientists suggest that he wasn't actually dead, and instead suffered from a neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré Syndrome. They believe that he was actually paralyzed and mentally aware.

Turkeys were once worshiped as gods

In 300 BCE, these big birds were heralded by the Mayan people as vessels of the gods and honored with worship. They were symbols of power and prestige and were domesticated to have roles in religious rites.
