Today’s Thoughts

I am slowly getting better with my sinus drainage. I talked to Andy and Faith. They are still suffering from their bronchitis, so no lunch with them this week.

When I was much younger, I spent Friday or Saturday night at different County-Western bars. There was lots of good music, some drinking, and a good time. On occasion, someone at the bar would be overserved and cause some disturbance. It was on those occasions that I would hear the bartender, bouncer, or manager use the them ’86 them’. Most times it was a simple ‘time to leave’ and on a few occasions it would lead to resistance and the drunk was thrown out. Since the DOJ believes this is a threat to kill, I wonder if new lawsuits will begin for those who were 86ed from an establishment. The current lawsuit on Comey seems very far-fetched and just plain silly.

I sure hope that the few April Showers we had here bring in a less windy and nice May.

 Interesting Trivia

Let It Go

A food fact for you: Emperor Claudius once issued an edict permitting farting at Roman dining tables after learning that a man almost met a fatal end due to his refusal to release his flatulence. You don't want to gamble your life on a mere whim.

Good Samaritans

Switzerland has a law that forbids their citizens from owning a single guinea pig. If you want to have one of these critters as a pet, you are obliged to own at least two or more. Although this might seem like a bizarre law, it's really heartwarming: Switzerland actually doesn't want the furry little creatures getting lonely.

You see, guinea pigs are incredibly social animals, and they do much better with a partner by their side.

Random historical facts you didn’t know

Forks used to be seen as sacrilegious

First introduced in Italy in the 11th century by a Byzantine princess, forks were seen as rude and sacrilegious because they were ‘artificial hands.’ Even in the 16th century, the English were still ridiculing those who dared to use the utensil.

Iceland has the world’s oldest acting parliament

Called the Althing by Icelanders, the world's oldest acting parliament was established in 930 CE.
