Today’s Thoughts

Finally, a day with just a breeze. I’m ready for that.

I’m curious as to what the hotel did with all those dinner meals after the event was cancelled. I hope they were not just trashed and that they were donated to a worthy cause.

There was a running joke that one should never show fear when using the copy machine because the machine detects the fear and then would break down. I think my vehicle has that same ability. This morning I had to make a quick trip to pick up some meds. Last week, both scripts were only partially filled, and I had to pick up the rest of the order. There are 7 stop lights on US89 from my place to the Walgreens. I was frustrated that I had to make this second trip for my meds. Somehow my vehicle sent out a signal, and I had to stop at every single light. Five of the 7 have a left-turn arrow, making each light much longer. On the way home, the same thing happened. It was crazy.

I am tired of the pot calling the kettle black. Politicians need to do their job. Politicians need to stop the blaming. Disagreement and discourse are part of the American way. It is time to step up and do your job.

King Charles gave a great speech to the Congress. Good for him.

I video-chatted with my brother in rural Spain. He has a nice cabin with a beautiful view for the next few days. He is doing great. He is about 10 minutes from a small town and is really enjoying the peace.

 Interesting Trivia

Take the Stairs

The entire state of Wyoming has only two escalators, both in the city of Casper. They’re so rare that some Wyoming residents visit these escalators just for the novelty of it, with one of them describing it as “like riding a tilt-a-whirl, but only slower". Annnnd that it is the most adorably mid-Western statement ever made. No wonder we love the middle states.

A Recycled Fact

There is a swirl of garbage in the Pacific Ocean, roughly the size of Texas. It's known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. While it's often described as "an island of garbage," the GPGP is more accurately seen as something like garbage soup: a massive portion of the ocean with a high concentration of plastics, sludge, and other debris.

It's disgusting. But no reason to despair! There are a number of wildly innovative and interesting proposals to clean up the patch. Here's hoping they work out!

Random historical facts you didn’t know

There were female gladiators in ancient Rome

A female gladiator was called a gladiatrix, two or more gladiatrices. They were extremely rare, but did exist until being officially banned from 200 CE onwards.

Adolf Hitler and Nazi soldiers used stimulants

During World War II, German physicians prescribed methamphetamine (Pervitin) when troops felt tired or depressed. Historical documents also suggest that Hitler inhaled powdered cocaine to treat sinus problems.
