Thoughts for
the day
Day 41 of the current shutdown.
Flag is having a nice fall day.
Out of the blue last night, my cable box turned off. I tried all the rebooting
things, and it still wouldn’t turn on. I called the help line. The AI voice led
me through 20 minutes of sending a new signal several times. Finally, I got a
human. Another 20 minutes of failure. The cable company opens on Monday, so I
will go in and get a new cable box. Until then I can watch TV in my office. It
is not as comfortable but works. I also realized how much I enjoy my DVR.
My parents were raised during the depression. I recall when I started
working at the grocery store, my dad would always comment on how cheap things were
during the depression. I saw a chart that shows how inflation has changed since
the 1950’s. If something cost 25 cents in 1959 it would be $2.79 cents today.
In 1955 it would cost $3.03 today. In 1950 it would cost $3.37 today. That
chart certainly opened my eyes.
As kids we played Jenga, the block stacking game. One thing we
quickly learned was that either adding or removing one piece usually had unforeseen
consequences. Lately, I feel like the current administration is playing Jenga,
and learning nothing. This administration adds or removes people, programs, grants
and other things without even considering the consequences of the move. Many of
their consequences are hurting Americans every day.
Animals From Native American Legends
And What They Symbolize
Owl
Owls are respected and feared in Native stories.
With their silent flight and ability to see in the dark, owls symbolize wisdom,
secrets, or changes coming soon.
While some tribes connect owls with myths about
death or omens, others see them as guides through mystery or the unknown.
Listening for an owl's call teaches people to
respect what is hidden and to approach change thoughtfully.
Boomers Were Forced to Memorize These
Facts—And They’re All Useless Now…
Diamonds
Are Made from Coal
This one
sounds logical, but it’s not actually true. Coal and diamonds both contain
carbon, but they form under completely different conditions. Coal comes from
ancient plant material, while diamonds form deep in the Earth under immense
pressure and heat. Yet, for some reason, teachers loved telling us that coal
magically transforms into diamonds over time. Turns out, science had a
different explanation.
Random Thoughts…
Remember
when teachers used to say, “You’ll never be walking around with a calculator in
your pocket.” Well, look at us now!
The
sinking of the Titanic must have been a miracle to the lobsters in the kitchen.
Black Friday and
Cyber Monday deals really put into perspective how much companies could sell
items for.
Heat,
Pressure and Time. The three things that make a diamond are also the three
things that make a waffle.
