Today’s Reflection:

It’s another warm day and a little breezy. At least it’s keeping the smoke out of our area.

I had lunch with Faith and Andy. Good food, good conversation.

I did some more laundry and put it away. Getting better every day.

Good to know:

Coyote Creates Humanity© mematsenphotography

Mischievous yet wise, Coyote appears in countless tribal stories as both hero and fool. In one beloved creation myth from the Pacific Northwest, Coyote discovers a basket filled with singing voices—the yet-to-be-born human beings.

Despite warnings not to open it, his curiosity gets the better of him. When he lifts the lid, people scatter in all directions across the land, explaining why different tribes speak different languages and have unique customs.

Coyote stories teach through humor rather than direct instruction. His mistakes often lead to unexpected benefits for humanity, showing that even flawed characters can contribute to the greater good—a refreshingly nuanced moral perspective in ancient storytelling.

Today’s Trivia:

Cuban Crocodiles prefer freshwater marshes and swamps, and rarely swim in saltwater. Additionally, they have the smallest range of any crocodile. They are found only in Cuba's Zapata Swamp in the southwest and in Lanier Swamp on Isla de Juventud, a total area that encompasses less than 200 square miles (although their range used to be larger). Sadly, they are now the most endangered species of crocodile in the world.

With an impressive wingspan of roughly 9 feet across, American White Pelicans are one of North America’s largest birds. Despite their large size, these birds are very adept fliers.

Coquerel's Sifakas are a species of lemur native to Madagascar. They have a limited collection of vocal calls and are relatively quiet unless threatened. They are most frequently heard quietly humming, but will sound off an alarm call that sounds like “shi-fakh, shi-fakh, shi-fakh” when they are in danger.
