‡‡My
Rambling Thoughts‡‡
Quiet
Saturday. Nice weather, doors and windows open for the beautiful spring air.
I
have some serious tax stuff to do on Monday. The new guy doesn’t really
understand K-1’s as well as my old guy. Tried to contact some people Friday afternoon,
but have to wait until Monday morning. Time is in a crunch, gotta get this
worked out.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL:
CNN
Posted an interesting ‘change in policy’ list for our President, comparing the
campaign stuff to what he has done. NATO obsolete to NATO no longer obsolete,
China is a currency manipulator to China is NOT a currency manipulator; Don’t
spend more money in Syria to airfield bombing; Janet Yellen is wrong to I like
her, Obama’s Executive Orders are a power grab to issuing 23 Executive Orders,
Unemployment figures are phony to Now they are very real, Obama should not be
playing so much golf to 16 golf vacations since taking office, Export-Import
Bank is featherbedding for politicians to lots of small companies have been helped, signed Federal hiring
freeze, Apr 12 stopped hiring freeze. This seems crazy but supporters keep
saying it’s fine, he is learning.

‡‡ Joke
For The Day‡‡
A
man in a hurry, taking his 8-year-old son to school, made a turn at a red light
where it was prohibited.
"Uh-oh, I just made an illegal turn!" the man said.
"Aw, Dad, it's probably okay," the son said. "The police car
right behind us just did the same thing."

‡‡Yep,
It Really Happened‡‡
Sometimes
a Great Selfie Involves a Little Risk
A young woman suffered injuries and was rushed to a hospital after falling from
a bridge while taking selfies, according to police in California. The Placer
County Sheriff's Office said that the woman, who was not identified, and a
group of her friends from the Sacramento area, were walking on the girders
underneath the Foresthill Bridge. The woman took a selfie and fell from the
girders, landing on the trail approximately 60 feet below. She was rushed to
the Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she is being treated for broken
bones. She is expected to survive. "The walkways under the Foresthill
Bridge are closed for the protection of our residents and our community. Any
trespassers found on the bridge will be cited. Be safe and tour the bridge from
the sidewalks above. This young lady is very lucky to be alive and the
consequences could have been worse for her, her friends and her family," a
spokesperson for the The Placer County Sheriff's Office said.

‡‡Somewhat
Useless Information‡‡
The
two circular drawings on the reverse of the bill are actually parts of the
two-sided Great Seal of the United States. Although we don't see the entire
seal outside of our wallets too often, the notion of having a great seal is
actually as old as the country itself. The Continental Congress passed a
resolution on July 4, 1776, to create a committee to design a great seal for
the fledgling nation.
***
The obverse picturing the eagle is a bit easier to explain. The bird holds 13
arrows to show the nation's strength in war, but it also grasps an olive branch
with 13 leaves and 13 olives that symbolize the importance of peace. (The
recurring number 13, which also appears in the stripes on the eagle's shield
and the constellation of stars over its head, is a nod to the original 13
states.)
***
The symbolism of the pyramid on the seal's reverse is trickier. The pyramid has
13 steps the designers apparently never got tired of the 13 motif and the Roman
numeral for 1776 is emblazoned across the bottom. The all-seeing Eye of
Providence at the top of the pyramid symbolizes the divine help the early
Americans needed in establishing the new country. The pyramid itself symbolizes
strength and durability.

‡‡How
our states were named‡‡
Texas
Texas comes
from teysha (sometimes spelled tejas, tayshas, texias, thecas,
techan, teysas,
or techas), a word widely used by the natives of the eastern Texas
region before the arrival of the Spanish. The tribes had various spellings and
interpretations of the word, but the usual meaning was “friends” or “allies.”
Some tribes, like the Hasinais and the Caddo, used it as a greeting, “hello,
friend.” This is the usage that Spanish explorers picked up and used to greet
friendly tribes throughout Texas and Oklahoma. The explorers also applied the
word as a name for the Caddo people and the area around their East Texas
settlement.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with
at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes
and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is
therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian
calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
