‡‡My
Rambling Thoughts‡‡
Our
discussion group was very good last night. Looks like Petroleum will be setting
the world’s economic and political policy for decades.
Five
of our group were at the Flagstaff Science March. We were all hyped by the
turnout and enjoyed sharing some of the better signs. Flagstaff is a very involved community. I
guess I also have to stop calling us a ‘little mountain town’ as our population
has exceeded 70,000 when the University students are included. Lots of rapid
growth certainly comes with massive problems with infrastructure. Glad I live
on the far end of the ‘town’ and can move around most of the town with local
roads.
25mph
winds today are putting a damper on plans to be outside.
A
fellow traveler, Ann, sent me a great picture of my traveling buddy/longtime
friend Bob as they are Focus Traveling in Costa Rica. I sent it to his daughter in Loveland. She
called this morning and we had a great conversation. She lives about a mile
from her dad and while he is still living independently, his 87 years are
catching up. Her daughter sees me as a brother from another mother and we
discussed some of the trials as well as the good times. Always tough for a strong
independent woman to deal with a strong independent man.

‡‡ Joke
For The Day‡‡
A
man was very excited when he saw the text message on his phone, “Salary
credited to your bank account." Jumping for joy, he rushed towards his car
to go out shopping. As soon he opened the door of the car, he received another
message, “Car loan debited from bank account."
He closed the door of the car and decided to take a taxi. As he halted a taxi,
he got another message, “Credit card payment made.” He changed his mind again
and started walking towards a local mall. As he entered the mall, he got yet another
text, “Please maintain minimum balance in your bank account.”
He turned around and started walking back home.

‡‡Yep,
It Really Happened‡‡
A
towering iceberg stationed off Newfoundland's east coast is drawing hundreds of
people to the small town sitting in its shadow.
Ferryland Mayor Adrian Kavanagh said it looks grounded and could stick around
for a while.
"It's a huge iceberg and it's in so close that people can get a good
photograph of it," he said during a phone interview.
The massive iceberg has become a tourist attraction in Ferryland, where cars
were backed up bumper to bumper as curious onlookers tried to get a glimpse of
it.
Kavanagh said the number of visitors took him by surprise, adding that the
"onslaught" showed that people are interested "in that kind of
stuff."
Pictures have been making the rounds on social media, including one of a
helicopter apparently parked on one end, looking insect-sized by comparison to
the huge iceberg.
Kavanagh said he's hearing that the wind could pick up and that could mean more
icebergs brushing by his town.
"You can see off in the distance on a clear day you can see five or six
big bergs," he said.
Experts are attributing it to uncommonly strong counter-clockwise winds that
are drawing the icebergs south, and perhaps also global warming, which is
accelerating the Greenland ice sheet's shedding of ice.

‡‡Somewhat
Useless Information‡‡
According
to the Venerable Bede, Easter derives its name from Eostre, an Anglo-Saxon
goddess of spring. A month corresponding to April had been named
"Eostremonat," or Eostre's month, leading to "Easter"
becoming applied to the Christian holiday that usually took place within it.
***
In Medieval Europe, eggs were forbidden during Lent. Eggs laid during that time
were often boiled or otherwise preserved. Eggs were thus a mainstay of Easter
meals, and a prized Easter gift for children and servants.
***
Hares and rabbits have long been symbols of fertility. The inclusion of the
hare into Easter customs appears to have originated in Germany, where tales
were told of an "Easter hare" who laid eggs for children to find.
German immigrants to America brought the tradition with them and spread it to a
wider public. They also baked cakes for Easter in the shape of hares, and may
have pioneered the practice of making chocolate bunnies and eggs.

The
General Lee
It's
probably old hat to say so, but this car was basically a star of the show! No,
really: During the show's heyday, thousands of fans wrote in letters asking
about it. In case you're wondering, the General was a 1969 Dodge Charger and
was famous as the main ride of Bo and Luke Duke. If you've ever tried to slide
across the hood of your car or narrate your adventures in a Southern drawl, you
owe a debt to this show. Source: Mental Floss

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with
at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes
and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is
therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian
calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
