Today’s Quote                                                         Today’s Meme

"As we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way." — Mary Anne Radmacher

Today’s Thoughts

I completely forgot I had my annual physical on Tuesday. It requires many blood tests. I remembered about 10am so headed for the blood draw. It took a while to wait for the sonagram machine. I got there about 11am and was out by 11:45. I can’t complain because it was my fault.

I hope everyone has a great Easter Weekend. I have no big plans but know something will happen…if it is only the snowstorm expected to arrive on Sunday and continue into Monday.

People seeking employment at the RNC are being asked whether they believe the 2020 election was stolen. Hmmm.

Terms with origins in rural America

Long in the tooth

Referring to being old, the term "long in the tooth" can first be found in a South Dakota newspaper in 1889, when a prospective buyer was trying to judge the age of a horse. Horses' teeth keep growing through their lives—although they are ground down as the horses eat—and so are used to determine their age.

Native Cultures

Teepees Are Not The Primary Native American Residence

Another misconception is that most Native Americans live inside of teepees as their primary residences. Teepee living is typically linked to the lives of Plains Indian tribes within the Great Plains region of the United States. These are designed specifically for temporary housing needs of nomadic travelers that relied on hunting buffalo as their livelihoods.

There were several other types of traditional dwellings used by Native Americans - such as wigwams, longhouses, pueblos, Earth lodges and hogans. Understanding the different types of residences used by Native Americans will also allow you to highlight the key differences that exist between various tribes.

Historical Myths many believe…

The Discovery of Penicillin Was Accidental

The discovery of penicillin by Alexander Fleming in 1928 is portrayed as a serendipitous ‘eureka’ moment that changed the world. According to The Conversation, Fleming’s bacteriology background and excellent observation skills were vital to his recognizing the mold juice’s potential as an antibiotic. And, even then, his discovery was dismissed for many years.

Historic Events

Ë 1822 – The Florida Territory was created in the United States.

Ë 1856 – The Treaty of Paris was signed, ending the Crimean War.
