‡‡My
Rambling Thoughts‡‡
Windy
day, Red Flag Warning, dry and warm. Still predicting snow early next week.
Got
a call from one of my college roommates. We talk 2 or 3 times a year. Nice to
hear from him. Found out another college roommate retired. Turns out he is
bi-polar. He was a judge and had an episode in his Denver courtroom. Neither of
us knew he had this issue, but probably helps explain his 5 marriages. Hope to
talk to him soon. Our 50th reunion is coming up and I am still
deciding what to do. The call also offered me a room at a condo in Golden
during the reunion. Hmmm. Maybe.
Two
loads of laundry washed, dried, and put away. Enough work for one day.

‡‡ Joke
For The Day‡‡
A
career Army officer I once met was jump master for his unit and was taking up a
few novices for a drop. The flight was pretty rough, and after a while, the
jump master called off the jump because of high winds. As the plane headed back
to base, and the pilot pulled off an unusually smooth landing, two of the
neophytes got airsick.
"How come you could take that rough flight, but you couldn't handle the
smooth landing?" asked the jump master.
"Well, sir," one trainee explained, "We've always jumped out of
planes. We've never actually landed before."

‡‡Yep,
It Really Happened‡‡
Doctors
at a Colombian hospital performed surgery on a woman who swallowed more than
$7,000 in U.S. $100 bills during an argument with her husband.
The 28-year-old woman told doctors at the Hospital Universitario de Santander
in Bucaramanga that she was suffering from severe stomach pain after swallowing
between $7,000 and $9,000 in U.S. $100 bills.
The woman said she had raised the money by selling household electronics and
had been planning to use it for a trip to Panama, but she swallowed the cash
out of spite when her husband demanded a cut of the money during an argument.
"The patient was taken to surgery. Two operations were performed at the
gastric level, at the exit of the stomach and at the disc part of the
intestine," chief of surgery Dr. Juan Pablo Serrano told Telemundo's Al
Rojo Vivo news program.
He said surgeons successfully removed $5,700 in bills that were in salvageable
condition.
"The rest, which were palpated in the tract, were advanced into the colon
and were expelled in a normal way," he said.
Police said they are currently holding onto the 57 $100 bills removed from the
woman's stomach until investigators can verify she wasn't attempting to smuggle
it illegally.

‡‡Somewhat
Useless Information‡‡
In
South Asian weddings, the bridesmaids steal the groom's shoes and hide them on
the day of the wedding, forcing him to be shoeless at the reception. The
younger crowd gathers to take part in a negotiation of how much money the
bridesmaids should get for the shoes.
***
In
parts of Malaysia, newlywed couples aren't allowed to go to the washroom for
three days and nights after their wedding. It's believed that it will bring
back luck, such as divorce or infertility.
***
In
Danish weddings, if the bride or groom leaves the other's side, the remaining
spouse gets swarmed with kisses from the wedding party until their better half
returns.

Harriet
Beecher Stowe
This
novel dates back to the 1850s, when it was published in the newspaper in serial
form before finally appearing in a single volume. "Uncle Tom's Cabin"
was actually far from Stowe's first book "Primary Geography for
Children," published in 1833. She would also write several essays and
stories in her time before going on to pen her most famous work, a bestseller
in its day. Sounds riveting! Source: Harriet Beecher Stowe Center

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with
at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes
and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is
therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian
calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
