‡‡My
Rambling Thoughts‡‡
One
of my college roommates called yesterday. Nice long conversation. He has
retired and is enjoying the retired life. Invited me to Denver for a visit. I’ll
see how that works out. He was quite the skier in high school and college. He
continued during his military career in the Army. He said he gave it up about 2
years ago because of bad ankles. He married a lady from our high school class.
They seem to be very happy a few years into the marriage. Always nice to catch
up with people you knew so well so many years ago.
Spring
= wind here. Today is really nice, except for the wind. Hard to spend much time
outside with 30mph gusts.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL:
I
really enjoy detective/cop shows on the tele. I feel like I am living in the
midst of one of them. The suspect invites the Top Cop to dinner. During dinner
the suspect asks the Top Cop if he is under investigation for anything. The Top
Cop says Nope. (What cop ever tells the suspect the whole truth?) The suspect
asks if the Top Cop will be loyal to him. The Top Cop says, I will be honest with
you. Commercial. Sadly, the show will not end in 60 minutes. But like all good
detective/cop shows, the Top Cop will win in the end.

‡‡ Joke
For The Day‡‡
A
little boy went down the street with his mom. He saw a dollar bill on the
ground and he asked if he could pick it up. The mom said, "Don't pick
things up from the ground."
Then the boy saw two dollar bills on the ground. He asked his mom, "Can I
pick the two dollars up?"
The mom said again, "Don't pick things up from the ground." Then the
mom slipped on a banana peel and fell down. The mom asked, "Can you help
me up?"
The boy said, "I was told not to pick things up from the ground."

‡‡Yep,
It Really Happened‡‡
A
police officer was shocked to see a mother holding her son on her lap and
forcing him to steer her car on a highway, according to police in Wisconsin.
Milwaukee police said that the 37-year-old woman is facing multiple charges,
including driving under the influence and child endangerment, after being
accused driving drunk with her 8-year-old son on her lap while the child was
steering the car.
Since this is the woman's third drunk driving offense, she was charged with 2nd
degree reckless endangering safety; operating after revocation - OWI related;
and interlock ignition device violation.
37-year-old Carrie L. Bernard was booked into jail, and her son was handed over
to Child Protective Services.
According to the criminal complaint, a deputy noticed a woman driving with a
boy on her lap on state Highway 145 around 2:30 p.m. Prime drinkin' time.
The officer pulled the vehicle over, and noticed that Bernard was under the
influence. The 8-year-old boy was crying, saying that he did not want to go to
jail.
Bernard refused to cooperate until a supervisor arrived on the scene. Bernard
then failed multiple field sobriety tests. A dog was also recovered from the
car.

‡‡Somewhat
Useless Information‡‡
The
original Library of Congress was burned down by the British in 1814 along with
the Capitol. To replace it, the Congress bought Thomas Jefferson's personal
book collection, which consisted of approximately 6,500 volumes.
***
The middle initial "S" in Harry S. Truman's name does not actually
stand for anything - his parents could not agree on a middle name.
***
The first time John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon locked in public debate was
not as presidential candidates in 1960 but as young congressmen in 1947, when a
political club invited them to discuss the pros and cons of a labor bill.

Bill
Clinton
Maya
Angelou wrote this poem to celebrate President Bill Clinton's inauguration in
1993. She also read it aloud during the ceremony, shortly after he took the
oath of office. Angelou, a Clinton supporter, sought to capture the entire arc
of American history in her poem as a way to promote an optimistic view of the
country's future and heal what she saw as a divided nation. Sources: The Los
Angeles Times, The Atlantic.

All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with
at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes
and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is
therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian
calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
