My Rambling Thoughts
Modern medicine can be awesome. Had a laser treatment on my weak eye. All went well. The assistant had a very distinctive accent, so I asked. She is from South Africa and a world traveler. Interesting conversation as we waited for the doctor.  The Doc came in and was setting up as we continued our talk. He looked at us and said, guess I better get busy and start traveling. Told him it was a good idea, but not until he finished my procedure.

Time for some filters on certain political comedians. One has already lost a good gig.

Yep, It Really Happened
Authorities in Florida are asking for the public's help finding a large $25,000 swan sculpture stolen by a naked man. The Polk County Sheriff's Office said surveillance cameras at Lakeland Cold Storage were recording when a naked man carrying a 5-gallon bucket squeezed through a gap in the fence.

"Do you call that buck naked, or bucket naked?" the sheriff's office quipped in a Facebook post. A Ford pickup truck was seen minutes later driving away with the giant black and white swan sculpture in the back.

The pickup truck, which was stolen, was later recovered "sans swan" and the man in the security camera footage was arrested Tuesday, but he's been mum as to the swan's location.

"So, we have a naked man, a bucket, and a very expensive and very large stolen swan. We know who the man is, and we have the truck back. But have you seen the missing swan? Call us," the sheriff's office said.

Somewhat Useless Information
For a while, each Girl Scout council could choose its own baker, and at one point there were 29 different companies making the cookies. To streamline the process, that number went down to four in the late 1970s, and in the 1990s, it decreased even further to two: ABC Bakers and Little Brownie Bakers.
***
The cookies were first sold in 1917. Back then, the scouts baked the cookies themselves and sold them door to door. By the 1920s, they were using a simple sugar cookie recipe, perhaps based on one published in a July 1922 issue of The American Girl magazine. In 1935, the words "Girl Scout Cookies" appeared on the boxes for the first time, and in 1936, the national organization began using commercial bakers.
***
Samoas, second in sales only to the iconic Thin Mints, were added to the Little Brownie cookie line in 1975. No one seems sure where the name Samoa comes from. One popular theory is the coconut connection. Of the island Samoa's top exports, number eight is coconut oil while number 15 is coconuts, brazil nuts, and cashews.

Yellow-Eyed Penguin
Who wants to live in a world without penguins? It's a terrible thought but something that could become a reality if we're not careful. New research from the University of Otago found that human factors, including fishing, dog walking and contaminated rivers, all have harmful effects on the New Zealand penguin population. If urgent action isn't taken soon, the researchers say, this particular type of penguin could go extinct locally within 25 years. Source: University of Otago

My Rambling Thoughts
Sure as heck feels like a Monday…one would assume after retirement, it wouldn’t make any difference. But for me it sure seems to.

Weather is nice, but it is very cloudy and looks like rain…doesn’t smell like rain, but looks like rain. Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

I had a great-uncle who lived on a ranch in Montana. I spent 3 summers on the ranch. Learned a lot. He was an early redneck before the term was even coined, I’m sure. Listening to our President whine and moan about NATO reminds of Uncle Larry. Back in the mid-1960’s he whined and moaned about NATO and how we shouldn’t be sending our hard earned money to help them. My uncle has been gone for decades, but sadly, his words still reflect a portion of our country’s population.

Yep, It Really Happened
*-- Music Fest Constructs 4-mile Beer Pipeline --*

A heavy metal music festival in Germany constructed a 4-mile long beer pipeline to more efficiently serve beverages to its guests. The Wacken Open Air music festival began constructing the massive beer pipeline in the fall and announced it was completed on Tuesday. "Until this year, we always had to move dozens of barrels through the infield," the festival's website states. "We had to bring in full barrels before and during the shows and afterwards we had to remove the empty ones. This caused a lot of avoidable traffic. The new pipeline helps us to protect the floor!" Wacken Open Air's beer pipeline will be able to carry about 105,000 gallons of beer throughout the festival grounds and provide enough pressure to pour six beers in six seconds. "In this way, we will no longer have to distribute truck loads of beer kegs across the premises each day," festival spokeswoman Frederike Arns said.

6. The largest invertebrate
The aptly named colossal squid is the world's largest squid species and the largest invertebrate on the planet. They can weigh as much as 1,000 pounds and can grow to 30 feet long. That's a lot of calamari.

***
7. The tallest land animal
The title of the world's tallest mammal belongs to the giraffe. The legs of these even-toed ungulates are taller than many people. Giraffes can grow to heights of 19 feet and can weigh as much as 2,800 pounds. They can sprint up to 35 miles-an-hour over short distances.

***
8. The largest reptile
As the largest of living reptiles - as well as the largest terrestrial and riparian predator in the world - the saltwater crocodile can reach lengths of 22 feet and can weigh in at 4,400 pounds.

***
9. The heaviest bird
The ostrich is the world's heaviest bird, with a weight of 350 pounds and a height of 9 feet. While they cannot fly, they can sprint up to 43 miles an hour and run long distance at 31 miles an hour.

***
10. The largest thing of all

In 1998 a single colony of honey fungus was discovered in the Malheur National Forest in east Oregon that covered an area of 3.7 square miles, and occupied some 2,384 acres.

The discovery was remarkable in that not only would the massive specimen be recognized as the world's largest known organism, but based on its growth rate, the fungus is estimated to be 2,400 years old - and maybe as old as 8,650 years - making it one of the planet's oldest living organisms as well.

$10,000
While the total cost of a burial can vary depending on where you live, an average funeral costs about $10,000 in the United States. Some of the costs associated with memorial services include the funeral home's service fee, the transfer of the remains, any embalming or body preparation (hair and makeup for the deceased can run as much as $250!), and of course, the casket. Caskets are often the big-ticket item, and can vary widely in cost depending on the materials used. Metal caskets, a popular variety, can cost $2,400 alone. Source: Huffington Post
