Today’s Thoughts

I woke up to rain. I had a 9am eye exam. When I came out of the doctor’s office it was snowing hard on the west side of town. I drove the 5 miles back to my house on the east side. When I got home it was a light mixture of rain and snow. It is not unusual for the weather to be completely different on the east and west side of our little mountain town.

Los Angeles flooding continues after days of rain. Now the concern is mud slides. Certainly, a mess for those living there.

What is going on in DC? The Republicans have been screaming ‘Border Crisis’ since Biden took office. A bipartisan group of Senators worked for months for a bill to deal with it…and that bipartisan group said it wasn’t prefect was the best start since the 1990’s. Trump said it was an awful bill. Now Republicans in both houses are saying the bill is awful. Many in the public believe they are now against what they helped develop is because it will be a win for Biden. Another attempt to get Trump elected.

Sorry to hear that Country Music’s Toby Keith has passed away at 62 after a long battle with stomach cancer. His music will live on.

The Michigan school shooter’s mother that killed 4 innocent students last year has been found guilty on all 4 counts of Involuntary Manslaughter. First time a parent has been held responsible for a school shooter’s actions. Sentencing is in April. The father’s trial is also coming up.

Weird History…

Ancient Romans Used Their Own Urine As Mouthwash

The Ancient Romans sure had some interesting ways of keeping their mouths clean! Believe it or not, they actually used their own urine as a mouthwash. While this may sound strange to us today, there is evidence that suggests the practice was quite common in Ancient Rome. Urine contains ammonia, which has antiseptic properties and can help kill bacteria and germs. So, while it may seem gross, it was actually an effective way for the Ancient Romans to keep their mouths healthy and fresh. This just goes to show that sometimes historical facts that seem too odd to be true are actually based on real-life practices from long ago.

Civil War Facts

The Confederacy splits in two

After several costly losses to the South near the Rappahannock River, the Union regained control of Vicksburg in July 1863. After six weeks of combat, the Confederates surrendered the city after losing nearly all 33,000 troops. Soon after, the North captured Port Hudson, Louisiana, splitting the Confederacy.
