Today’s Thoughts

It has warmed up enough to start melting all the snow. The HOA Road grader was here about 9am to clear our parking spaces. I moved my vehicle out of the way and now have a clear road and parking area.

I was reminded yesterday that Andy Reed, Chiefs head coach, was also the offensive line coach at our local University (NAU) back in the 1980’s. Coach Reed was interviewed and had nice things to say about NAU, Flagstaff and Arizona. Cool.

Decoding Common Phrases…

Piece of Cake

The saying “piece of cake” is a popular idiom used to describe a task or activity that is very easy to accomplish. Originating from the 1930s, it equates the simplicity and pleasure of eating a piece of cake to effortlessly completing a certain job or challenge.

This expression is often employed to convey confidence in one’s ability to achieve a goal without much effort or to reassure others of the ease of a task.

It highlights the human tendency to compare complex activities to simpler, more enjoyable experiences to make them seem less daunting.

In everyday language, “piece of cake” serves as a lighthearted and optimistic way of looking at potentially challenging situations.

Civil War Facts

The assassination of President Lincoln

While attending a performance at Ford's Theatre in Washington D.C., President Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth, a pro-Confederacy actor seeking revenge for the South's defeat. Initially, Booth escaped but was cornered and shot dead by a Union soldier 11 days later in Virginia. Nine other people involved in the president's murder were prosecuted—one was acquitted, four hanged, and four incarcerated. Lincoln died at the Petersen boardinghouse shortly after being shot.

Historical Facts about Native Americans…

Historical Facts About Native Americans That Aren't Taught In School

They Didn't Just Live In Teepees

While teepees are usually considered a symbol of Native American life, they may not be the most accurate. Some did live in teepees, but there were many other types of housing.

For example, the Native Americans of the Iroquois nation lived in longhouses, those in Mesa Verde lived in cliffs, and the Taos tribes lived in pueblos.
