Today’s Thoughts

A nice winter day here. Snow and icicles melting nicely.

Another horrific mass shooting. This time at the end of the Super Bowl Chief’s parade in Kansas City. It appears to be a personal dispute. It left 1 dead and 22+ injured. Two juveniles and one adult are being held. I don’t think that the 2nd amendment allows innocent individuals to be shot or murdered in a personal dispute.

CNN is broadcasting the Fani Willis case.  Watching the judicial process play out can be heart-wrenching.

Decoding Common Phrases…

Spill the Beans

“Spill the beans” is an idiomatic expression used to describe the act of revealing secret or confidential information, often unintentionally.

The origin of this phrase is somewhat unclear, but it is thought to date back to ancient Greece, where beans were used in voting and spilling them could inadvertently reveal a vote or secret decision. In modern usage, it typically implies the disclosure of information that was meant to be kept under wraps, whether in a personal or professional context.

The saying often conveys a sense of accidental revelation, where someone might divulge a secret without realizing the implications or being fully aware of doing so. “Spill the beans” has become a common phrase in everyday language, capturing the human tendency to reveal more than intended in moments of carelessness or under pressure.

America’s Top Attractions…NEW

1900s: Coney Island, New York City, New York

The site of several amusement parks since the late 19th century, Coney Island has long been a hot spot for pleasure-seeking New Yorkers. Luna Park was one of many that sprung up here, opening in 1903, and cementing its status as the country’s premier amusement resort. Dreamland opened a year later and in 1916, Nathan Handwerker started selling hot dogs from a stand which went on to become Nathan's Famous hot dog chain. The iconic boardwalk was built in the 1920s.

Historical Facts about Native Americans…

Some Native Americans Worked With Buffalo Bill Cody

Buffalo Bill Cody was a soldier, hunter, and showman who created his own Wild West show. His shows would have themes of cowboys, the frontier, and Native Americans.

He partnered with several Native Americans and had them perform in his shows wearing feathered headdresses and riding painted horses. Acts in the show included sideshows, staged races, and feats of skill.

Historic Events

1923 – In Thebes, Egypt, English archaeologist Howard Carter entered the sealed burial chamber of the ancient Egyptian ruler King Tutankhamen. He had been looking for King Tut’s tomb since his first trip to Egypt in 1891. The outer chambers were discovered in November 1922.

1959 – Fidel Castro became the Premier of Cuba after dictator Fulgencio Batista was overthrown (on January 1).

2005 – The Kyoto Protocol came into force.
