Today’s Thoughts

Just a little snow left in shady areas.

All the icicles from my roof and overhang have finally fallen. Nice to have a full view from my windows. As the last huge band of icicles fell, I heard it loudly in my office. That is good news for my roof as ice dams can really damage a roof.

Medicare is a good program for ‘older’ citizens. The paperwork to get Medicare to fill orders is very tiring. I’ve been getting a script for several years, thru a pharmacy, but now it is free from Medicare…if my provider and I jump through way too many hoops.

Decoding Common Phrases…

A Penny for Your Thoughts

The idiom “a penny for your thoughts” is a charming invitation to share one’s inner musings, often used in moments of reflective silence.

Historically, this phrase symbolizes the modest value of a penny compared to the priceless nature of personal thoughts and feelings. In conversation, it serves as a gentle nudge, encouraging someone to open up about what’s preoccupying their mind.

This expression highlights the human connection, valuing the sharing of ideas and emotions over material wealth. As a cultural artifact, it reminds us that sometimes, the simplest gestures of interest in another’s thoughts can forge deeper understanding and empathy.

America’s Top Attractions

1910s: Grand Central Terminal, New York City, New York

The first Grand Central Terminal was built in 1871 by shipping and railroad magnate Cornelius Vanderbilt, but the stunning New York landmark we know today opened to the public in 1913. More than 150,000 people went along to celebrate the opening of the Beaux-Arts-style terminus. In the 1930s, its boom years, Grand Central Terminal became the busiest train station in the country and housed an art gallery, newsreel movie theater and a rail history museum.
