Today’s
Reflection:
A tad to windy for my liking, Otherwise I very nice day.
My mom was born this day in 1919. She lived a good life for 89
years. She is still missed.
Change happens. The medical helicopters now go right over my place several
times a day. They can be very loud as they fly low on the way to the hospital
heliport. No complaints about the noise since I simply remember it is saving
lives.
I really enjoyed the Jeopardy Masters Tournament that ended this week.
$5k for every adult American. Yeah right. First, I’ve heard about
checks from this felon before. Second, where is this $1.2 trillion going to
come from? I’m not holding on much hope for any $$.
Here in our little mountain town, the sheriff’s dept. has seized
more that $1million in seized drugs this year. I-40 seems to be a pipeline for
all them drugs.
Want to feel old? 1/3 of the American population was born after
9/11/2001. Only 1/3 of the population was alive when JFK was killed. Ouch!
Here’s a trivia item: When there is a Presidential Press Conference
there is a teleprompter ready for the President to read to the American Public.
When Obama was preparing to announce the Bin Laden assassination, the teleprompter
was on with his speech while the news media filed in. A NY Times reporter read
what was on the teleprompter and called his bosses before Obama could read it. Ever
since that night, the teleprompter has a copy of the Gettysburg Address when
people are filing in.

12 Sept History video
Cool to know:
Frank Lloyd Wright's son
invented Lincoln Logs.
The famous architect's
design for the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo inspired John Lloyd Wright to produce
the interlocking log beams on
a much smaller scale for kids.
Colorado Wildlife:
This is a small,
pale-colored myotis. The hairs of the dorsum are yellowish brown and lack
burnished tips. The braincase rises abruptly above the rostrum. The only other
Colorado myotis as small as the California myotis is the western small-footed
myotis, which may be darker brownish in color, has dorsal hairs with brassy,
burnished tips, a smaller hind foot and a skull with a flat profile, the
forehead rising gradually from the rostrum. Care is needed to distinguish
the species in the field, and certain identification may
require comparative material in the museum.
Physical Characteristics
Total length of nine
individuals from northwestern Colorado averaged 83.4 mm, length of forearm
averaged 33 mm and weight averaged 4.8 g. Wingspan is about 210 mm.
Range
Like a number of other
species of myotis, this is a bat of western North America, ranging from central
Mexico north to British Columbia and from the Pacific Coasy.
Picture of the
Day:
1989. AP Caption: A
Chinese man stands alone to block a line of tanks heading east on Beijing's
Cangan Blvd. in Tiananmen Square. The man, calling for an end to the recent
violence and bloodshed against pro-democracy demonstrators, was pulled away by
bystanders, and the tanks continued on their way. The Chinese government
crushed a student-led demonstration for democratic reform and against
government corruption, killing hundreds, or perhaps thousands of demonstrators
in the strongest anti-government protest since the 1949 revolution. Ironically,
the name Tiananmen means "Gate of Heavenly Peace".
