My Rambling Thoughts
It’s certainly spring…massive winds throughout
the area. Glad I am here and not on the Rez, as I know how dusty/sandy it is
today up there.
In case anyone cares, I’m getting tired to the
‘survey’ phone calls about politics. Got one yesterday that made absolutely no
sense. It was talking about a bill in the legislature, but the final question
was a double negative and there was no button to repeat it. So I just hung up.
Then earlier in the week I got one about a candidate for US Senate. Question 1:
Do you recognize the name of the candidate? I answered NO, the next question
was: On a scale of 5 with 5 being very positive and 1 being not positive at
all, what is your feeling about the candidate? I hung up.

Brain Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
Behead M
Language brain teasers
are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and
manipulate words and letters.
When you behead a word, you remove
the first letter and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the
two words, longer word first.
Example: Begin -> Sour, acidic
Answer: The words are Start and Tart.
1. Female parent -> Not one already mentioned; alternate
2. Several; large indefinite number -> One; some indefinite number
3. A story's lesson -> Relating to the mouth; using speech
4. Face disguise -> To request
5. Trough for animal food -> Wrath; strong displeasure
6. Sparse, poor quality -> Showing keen interest
7. Symbolic team figure -> Necktie or scarf with broad ends
8. Anything that belongs to a group -> Glowing wood fragment

2 jokes for the day
"Wake up, honey. It's time to
go to school."
"But why? I don't want to go to school."
"Give me two reasons why you don't want to go to school."
"One, all the children hate me. Two, all the teachers hate me."
"Oh, that's no reason. Come on, you have to go to school."
"Give me two good reasons why I should go to school?"
"One, you are fifty-two years old. Two, you are the principal!"

The room was full of pregnant women
and their partners, and the class was in full swing. The instructor was
teaching the women how to breathe properly, along with informing the men how to
give the necessary assurances at this stage of the plan.
The teacher then announced, "Ladies, exercise is good for you. Walking is
especially beneficial. And, gentlemen, it wouldn't hurt you to take the time to
go walking with your partner."
The room got quiet. Finally, a man in the middle of the group raised his hand.
"Yes?" replied the teacher.
"Is it all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"

Yep, It Really Happened
*------------ Leave it to the French ------------*
A hero of Greek mythology, known for his
virility and thirst for women, has been stripped of his manhood one too many
times, according to a seaside town in France. A three-meter statue of Heracles,
or Hercules, Greek mythology's divine hero, has stood in the Parc Mauresque in
Arcachon since 1948, and the town has been powerless to stop vandals from
constantly snapping off the beloved sculpture's genitalia. Until now, that is.
To avoid any further pain or embarrassment to the statue, the townspeople have
created a removable penis for the Greek God, for use only on special occasions
which warrant ceremonies in the park. Deputy Mayor Martine Phelippot said it
was the best solution, 'otherwise you just end up constantly chasing after the
anatomy of Heracles'. And nobody wants that.

Somewhat Useless Information
Franklin Roosevelt used the IRS to
harass newspaper publishers who were opposed to his plans for the New Deal. The
former president also used the IRS on political rivals and prominent
Republicans, including an IRS audit of illegal campaign contributions made by a
government contractor to congressman and future president Lyndon B. Johnson.
During his presidency, Richard Nixon encouraged a secret IRS program called the
Special Services Staff, which investigated his political opponents as well as
harassing them with audits. More than 10,000 individuals and groups were
targeted between 1969 and 1973.
Previous to 1862, the government only collected sales tax on certain items such
as alcohol and tobacco. President Lincoln created the IRS and enacted a 3
percent income tax on those who made between $600 and $10,000 to assist in
covering Civil War costs. This would be repealed 10 years later.
The income tax system employed by the IRS that we know today would not be put
into place until 1913 with the addition of the 16th amendment to the U.S.
Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall have power to lay and collect
taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived..."
When the income tax was fully established in 1913, the tax rate was 1 percent.
Few paid income tax to the IRS, as it was required only if you made $3,000 or
more per year. That year only 1 out of 271 Americans had to pay income tax.

All opinions are mine…feel free to agree or disagree.
All ‘data’
info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other
source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the
information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult
to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted
[1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
