contacts his old friend Ulysses Grant. Grant makes him an aide, and they work
together through much of the Civil War. Because of his excellent penmanship,
Donehogawa draws up the surrender papers for Lee to sign at Appomattox.
Promoted to Brigadier General, Ely Parker worked to settle many conflicts
between whites and Indians. After Grant becomes President, he will be appointed
as Indian Commissioner on this date.

My Rambling Thoughts
Good news and more good news. Yesterday my
mouse was really acting up. Called the tech guy and after about 40 minutes
informed me that the hardware was faulty….means buy a new mouse. It’s at least
8 years old, so not a big deal to get a new one.
Went to my PCP and found that my blood issue
is getting better and probably not a lot to worry about. Now just have to meet
with the hematologist. The Docs assistant came in and was not impressed with
the bruises on my arms from the bloodletting. She is a former hematologist and
says this bruising is ‘very unusual.’ Hmmm.
So Andrew Jackson will not be on the new
twenty dollar bill. He was the leader of our country when the greatest
atrocities occurred to the Native population. Glad he won’t be honored on the
twenty anymore.

Brain Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
Five Of A Kind
Riddles are little poems
or phrases that pose a question that needs answering. Riddles frequently rhyme,
but this is not a requirement.
The first is needed to make quotes
you see,
And it often sticks up when it's time for noon tea.
The second's biggest distinction is found
Bearing the symbol of love that is bound.
The third should be biggest but that can depend,
Never standing alone or it may offend.
The fourth is oft used when making a selection
Or if you should need a gun for protection.
The fifth is the fattest and oddest by far,
And can sometimes be found in a wrestling war.
What are they?

Yep, It Really Happened
*-- These Are the Voyages of Boaty McBoatface --*
The Natural Environment Research Council
doesn't know how the Internet works. The British Research Council that supports
research, training and education in the environmental sciences went to the Internet
to name their brand new polar research vessel. The idea was supposed to be a
goodwill campaign to generate public interest and support of the NERC and its
programs. Unfortunately for them, the name the Internet chose for the 200m Euro
ship was RRS Boaty McBoatface. In fact, Boaty McBoatface received 124,109
votes, four times more than the second-placed name. However, the chief
executive of the NERC, Duncan Wingham, will have the final say in the naming of
the boat, so it is unlikely RRS Boaty McBoatface will ever weigh anchor.
Science minister Jo Johnson said, "We want a name that lasts longer than a
social media news cycle and reflects the serious nature of the science it will
be doing." So much for the power of social media.

Somewhat Useless Information
Not all wines improve with time. In
fact, a vast majority of wines produced are ready to drink and do not have much
potential for aging. Only a rare few will last longer than a decade.
***
Red wines are red because
fermentation extracts color from the grape skins. White wines are not fermented
with the skins present.

Brain Teasers Answers
The digits of the hand! (The order on the poem
is pinky, ring finger, middle finger, index or pointer finger, and thumb)
The pinky hits the quotation mark key on the keyboard when typing, and people
often raise their pinky off the cup when drinking tea. The ring finger bears a
wedding band when married. The middle finger is an obscene gesture when
standing alone. You point with the index finger to make a selection, or use it
to pull the trigger on a gun. The thumb can be used for thumb wrestling.

All ‘data’
info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other
source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the
information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult
to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted
[1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
