My Rambling Thoughts
More moisture in our little mountain town today…so nice…makes moving around not so pleasant, but does the land good.
I hate income tax time. Today I found out that one of my investments didn’t send me 1099. Called and got a letter from them saying they won’t be putting them out until Sept. 2016. Seems some blogger has accused the company of being a Ponzi scheme. I’ve had this investment for over a decade and it makes me good money. Doubt seriously that it is a Ponzi scheme. So I took the letter to my accountant and he smiled, and said, no problem, I’ll just average your income for the past few years and send that in. That is good because the letter suggested filing an extension. Also found out that I will be getting a refund this year…first time in quite a while I haven’t owed…that is good news.

Brain Teasers
(answers at the end of post)
Curtail P
Language brain teasers are those that involve the English language. You need to think about and manipulate words and letters.
Difficulty:
 (1.44/4)
When you curtail a word, you remove the last letter and still have a valid word. You will be given clues for the two words, longer word first.
Example: Begin -> Heavenly body
Answer: The words are Start and Star.

1. Bend out of shape -> Armed conflict
2. Muscle contraction -> Pack to capacity
3. Pass over; omit -> Glide on snow
4. Wet -> Large water barrier
5. Marsh; bog -> Moved through water
6. Waterproof canvas -> Pitch; oily residue
7. Cry; shed tears -> Very small
8. Assume a slouching posture; decrease suddenly -> Run-down part of a city

Somewhat Useless Information
About two-thirds of shark attacks on humans have taken place in water less than six feet deep. Most shark attacks occur less than 100 feet from the shore. Shark attacks happen all over the world, but mainly around popular beaches in North America (especially Florida and Hawaii), Australia, and South Africa.

For every human killed by a shark, humans kill a million sharks.

***
Approximately 100 million sharks are killed every year. Shark teeth are used to make necklaces; cartilage is used to make fertilizers; skin is used to make leather; liver is used to make face cream, sap, and fuel; and fins are used to make soup. The mass killing of sharks creates a negative, cascading effect in the global environment. About two-thirds of shark attacks on humans have taken place in water less than six feet deep. All ‘data’ info is from the internet sites and is usually checked with at least one other source, but I have learned that every site contains mistakes and sadly once the information is out there, many sites simply copy it and is therefore difficult to verify. Also for events occurring before the Gregorian calendar was adopted [1582] the dates may not be totally accurate.
