Today’s Thoughts

The storm only dropped about 2” last night. It was good for the forest.

I had lunch with Mary and Mike today. They came up from Phoenix last week and with the cold and snow can’t wait to get back to Phoenix. They had a great Christmas down there with their family. Mary has some arthritis in her hands. She said she is now best friends with her Tylenol bottle. Faith and Andy are still in Mesa.

Since I started today’s blog, clouds cover about 60% of the sky and it looks like Round 2 of the storm is moving in fast. Weatherman says it is fast moving and there won’t be snow until Saturday or Sunday

 Enjoy

Important inventions…

1968: Integrated Computer Systems

In a landmark December 1968 demonstration, later known as The Mother of all Demos, engineer Douglas Engelbart illustrates the use of lots of recent technologies in conjunction with each other, including: on-screen windows, hypertext, graphics, file linking, revision control, video conferencing, the computer mouse, and word processing. Both Mac and Windows user interfaces will borrow heavily from the example set here.

States that never made the map

Franklin

In 1784, several counties broke away from North Carolina, which they viewed as corrupt, and formed the provisional State of Franklin, installing Tennessee founding father, John Sevier, as governor.

Congress failed to recognize the state and North Carolina took back control of Franklin in 1789. The territory that formed the bulk of Franklin was handed over to the federal government and eventually became the State of Tennessee.

Historic Events

1914 – The Ford Motor Company announced an eight-hour workday and that it would pay a “living wage” of at least $5 for a day’s labor.

1957 – In a speech given to the United States Congress, United States President Dwight D. Eisenhower announced the establishment of what became The Eisenhower Doctrine, an anti-communist agenda.
