My Rambling Thoughts
Great
warm day…hoping the monsoon returns very soon.
Did
some early running around…stopped at Sprouts to pick up some healthy food.
More
hearings on CNN. Democracy is sure messy. Listening to these politicians praise
or tear apart a public servant is far from enjoyable. The parts I watched were
at least civilized.
NPR
did a story on how many American citizens die each day by police. I had no idea
that the police kill 3 Americans every day. [So far this year over 600 have
been killed]. Hard to believe they all or even most deserve that. Sadly it all
seems to come down to education…something the right seems to see as a waste of
money…a waste to give money to public education…and a waste to train police
that their role is to serve and protect and that lethal force should be the
very last resort. I have not been at any police shootings or any shootings for
that matter, but I do know and have known many police officers in my career.
None of those I have known have ever fired their weapon at the beginning of any
situation involving a civilian.

2 jokes for the day
That
Was Short
A
woman had been talking on the phone for about half an hour, and then she hung
up.
"Wow," said her husband, "that was short. You usually talk for two hours. What happened?"
"Wrong number," replied the wife.

Finalizing
My Divorce
Once
my divorce was final, I went to the local Department of Motor Vehicles and
asked to have my maiden name reinstated on my driver's license.
"Will there be any change of address?" the clerk inquired.
"No," I replied.
"Oh, good," she said, clearly delighted. "You got the house."

The Itchiest Dress In The World --------*
An
English woman who became famous (more or less) for making an entire dress out
of 3,000 Skittles has just figured out how to roll that fame into something
much more disgusting. The 28-year-old Sarah Louise Bryan has just finished a
skirt and bra outfit made entirely from human hair. Not her own, which would be
gross enough, no, she had to go to social media to ask people to donate their
hair. Why? Because the hair she wanted to use was pubic hair. And thanks to the
completely shameless nature of the Internet she got more than enough to finish
her project. Sarah said she received thousands of responses. Wearing gloves for
protection, Sarah was forced to wear a face and eye mask after she started
gagging while working on the dress. But the mother-of-two has no plans so slow
down in her creations, and wants to go on and design even more disgusting
outfits. "I love creating wearable art from things no-one else would think
of. I pride myself in being the first in the world to create something so
unique. You can find pictures of her wearing the dress online, if you feel like
you can stomach it.

Somewhat Useless Information
The
smallest dog on record was a matchbox-size Yorkshire Terrier. It was 2.5"
tall at the shoulder, 3.5" from nose tip to tail, and weighed only 4
ounces.
***
Zorba,
an English mastiff, is the biggest dog ever recorded. He weighed 343 pounds and
measured 8' 3" from his nose to his tail.
***
Dogs
can smell about 1,000 times better than humans. While humans have 5 million
smell-detecting cells, dogs have more than 220 million. The part of the brain
that interprets smell is also four times larger in dogs than in humans.
***
Dogs
like sweets a lot more than cats do. While cats have around only 473 taste
buds, dogs have about 1,700 taste buds. Humans have approximately 9,000.
***
It is
a myth that dogs are color blind. They can actually see in color, just not as
vividly as humans. It is akin to our vision at dusk.
***
Dogs
DO have better low-light vision than humans because of a special
light-reflecting layer behind their retinas.

There
are currently eight justices in the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, eight is not
so great. Earlier this year, Justice Antonin Scalia passed away at 79.
President Obama promised to fill the seat "right away" but now it's
July and there is still no new judge. It isn't like D.C. has its hands full or
anything- what with one of the most interesting presidential elections in
history looming around the corner. The Supremes just finished their hometown
tour and even with a member down they still managed to throw out a few final
crowd pleasers. Source: The Supreme Court official website and the Associated
