Today’s Quote                                                        Today’s Meme

"Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not." — Oscar Wilde

Today’s Thoughts

Nice and warm with high clouds.

Don’t hold your breath, but it sounds like the jury and alternates are ready for the Trump trial.

A friend from TC has passed. Back in the 1980’s I worked with Tony on several community projects. He and his high school students helped our group with screen printing of T-shirts for events and races. We all worked for free on these events. A few years later, he had his shop class hold a raffle for some of their woodworking. I bought a $3 ticket and won a very nice coffee table that I am still using. Cancer took him yesterday. He will be missed by many.

I have been fortunate enough to see several large coral reefs in my travels. A new study on coral reefs shows bleaching of the reefs due to warmer waters. One-quarter of the ocean population live in coral reefs. This can lead to devastation of our oceans around the world. Various groups are working tirelessly to stop the bleaching. They have gone so far as carefully moving some reefs to cooler water. This is a last ditch effort to save them.

 Did you know…part 2

The Only Japanese Passenger on RMS 'Titanic' Was Shamed By His Country For Being Alive

Masabumi Hosono was an employee of the Japanese Transportation Ministry who traveled to Russia and then to England to study railway operations. He boarded the RMS Titanic at Southampton, also called "the ship of dreams," before tragedy struck. When the Titanic went down, Hosono was on deck like all the other passengers looking for a way out. Suddenly, the officers announced that one of the lifeboats had space for two more passengers. Hosono became the second to jump in.

Initially, when he went back to Japan, he was hailed as a survivor and became a mini celebrity. Later, he was denounced as a stowaway, first by Archibald Gracie, a first-class passenger and Titanic survivor, and then by his own countrymen.

Hosono lost his job, and while he was eventually hired back, his career never really revived. The shame persisted until his death in 1939, and even after.
