Today’s Thoughts

A windy winter day. Not a day to spend outside.

I got good news today…my blood count in well within the normal range and I don’t need a phlebotomy. That’s 2 visits in a row. I had to ask several times to be sure she was reading the right blood results. I’ll keep the port, just in case. That means a flushing every couple of months…no big deal. I’ve been doing these phlebotomies since 2016, so this is a big deal.

I’m in the boat that realizes I have a lot more to learn about Iran. It is a big country that would cover much of middle America on a map. The government was thinking ahead when it developed an ‘Autonomous Mosaic Defense’…that’s where there is not one unified defense force, but each area can act independently in case the government falls. Each area has a plan on how to carry out their military goals without having to have them ordered by the central government. That alone should have warned everyone that this would be a long battle.

After hearing all the unsettled Middle East, I messaged Hamdy to be sure his family was OK in Egypt. He said his family is safe from any unrest. He invited me to do a trip to the Nile in August, but I told him I needed more prep time, but to keep me in mind for future travel to Africa. I would really like to visit Africa again, but I want some time to pass from the current unrest.

OMG…Krisit Noem is leaving as Homeland Security at the end of March. Now Senator Markwayne Mullin of OK will head the agency. Time for some more reading on who he is. I hope this is a good move.

Common Saying’s Origin

Don't take any wooden nickels

Wooden nickels were made as Depression-era scrip and also as commemorative coins. The phrase "don't take any wooden nickels" was advice given to country people going to the city not to be fooled or swindled.

Duck fit

A duck fit is a temper tantrum or sometimes laughter. The American idiom comes from the sound of a duck, particularly an angry one.
