Today’s Thoughts
Another nice winter day. I’m sure glad it has been a mild winter.
Sam’s Club has had the cheapest gas for quite a while. It has been
between $3.03 and $3.08 for weeks on end. Today it was $3.13. I’m expecting
more price increases with each fill-up for the foreseeable future. Sad.
With the demise of the penny, I have been wondering how prices will
change…will they round up to the nearest nickel or round down? Our state
legislature has introduced a bill to answer that question. If the total bill,
including taxes, ends in 1. 2,6, or 7 it will be rounded down. If the total
bill, including taxes, ends in 3, 4, 8, or 9, it will be rounded up. It is not
sure if this bill will pass.
Common Saying’s Origin
Flew the coop
"Flew the coop"
usually refers to escaping, such as from jail or confinement. It dates to early
20th-century America, and it refers to barnyard chickens fleeing their
enclosure.
Fly off the handle
To "fly off the
handle" means to lose control or lose one's temper. It comes from the
dangerous way the head of an axe can come loose from the handle and can be
traced to American pioneer days when axes were handmade and ill-fitting heads
would come off.
10 miles of dirt road
To look like "10 miles of dirt road" is to look pretty bad. It's a popular phrase in Wyoming, where there's plenty of dirt roads.
