Today’s Thoughts
A windy spring day…oops, a windy winter day. With these temperatures, it
sure looks like spring.
This is serious…How often will we be asked to deal with increasing prices?
The administration has been promising better days ahead and that all these
price increases are for the short term. After the inauguration, Trump levied
tariffs. It’s been over a year, and prices are still going up. Gas prices have
skyrocketed since we bombed Iran. Utility prices increase every month. I am
grateful that I can still afford what I need. I know that many acquaintances from
the Rez are really suffering with these prices. I think if we had good
communicators in the administration, we would be more acceptable of the
increases. I remember the gas crisis from the 1970’s. I was working on the Rez
but came to Flagstaff on weekends. Some days I couldn’t buy gas…even at the
high prices. That administration explained it to the people and we didn’t like
it but we accepted it. This administration is not explaining it.
When I was in college there were lots of protests. Many of those protests
were organized by Jewish students on our campus. Now we are seeing an explosion
of ant-Jewish sentiment across the country. What is Congress doing to stop this
hatred? What are everyday Americans doing? Your religion should not cause
hatred. The one time I get upset with religion is when they not only want to be
that religion but find it necessary to convert everyone to their beliefs. LDS
and 7th Day Adventist have been ringing doorbells forever. Now it
seems that the Christian Right believes that we must believe what they believe.
If we don’t follow, they seem to see us as worthless. This is not what Freedom
of Religion in the US constitution is all about.
Real Hoaxes
Readers of The New York
Sun in 1835 were astonished by reports claiming that scientists
had spotted bat-like people and crystal palaces on the Moon through a
powerful new telescope.
The story was pure invention, but
circulation went up. By the time the truth came out, the paper’s readership had
reportedly increased dramatically.
*****************************
When perfect circles began
appearing overnight in wheat fields, people talked about UFO landings. The
shapes seemed too precise to have been made by human hands.
But, in 1991, two Englishmen confessed they’d used boards and ropes to flatten the crops. While this revelation explained many of the formations, the mystery lives on in popular imagination.
