Today’s Thoughts
No moisture today…nice
winter weather.
I have no idea what
12’ of snow would look like in Flagstaff. Let alone the high winds. Glad I’m not
in a town getting that much in California.
I read an article
today that Steamboat Springs is having a housing crisis for the workers of the
town. Since the pandemic, housing prices, buying or renting, have skyrocketed
80%. It is not just harming hourly wage workers, but also professionals like doctors
and other professionals. It seems that many homebuyers are from out-of-state
and offer cash prices up to $20K above the asking price. To make it worse local
rentals are being turned into short term rentals leaving many to leave. Sad
Story.
UNESCO sites in America…
Independence Hall
This historic building has
been a World Heritage Site since 1979. It's located in Pennsylvania. It's not a
remarkable building on its own, but it's where the Declaration of Independence
and the Constitution were signed. It might not be the absolute best UNESCO Site
in America, but it's definitely full of important American history.
America’s Top Attractions
1930s: Golden Gate Bridge, San
Francisco, California
When the Golden Gate Bridge
opened to pedestrians in 1937, the celebrations lasted for a week. The longest
and tallest suspension bridge in the world received more than 200,000 foot
passengers on its first day. The architecturally stunning bridge was an instant
hit and became a symbol of San Francisco. It was one of America’s top-visited
attractions, which it remains today.
Influential Native Americans…
Tecumseh
Wedged between the American
expansionists and the British invaders, Tecumseh was a Shawnee leader who
attempted to carve out a sovereign Indigenous state in the Midwest. Tecumseh
and his spiritually enlightened brother, Tenskwatawa, were descended from a
long line of Indigenous leaders who fought for the land against the intruders.
While Tecumseh's mission failed, and he died in battle in 1813, his efforts
exposed the duplicitous underbelly of the foundation of America. His impact in
the Midwest contributed to The American Indian Movement, which was started in
Minneapolis in the 1960s and continues its work to this day.

Anderson, English director, producer, and screenwriter
“My approach has
always been to put 100% into the movie I’m making right now. I think sometimes
filmmakers put too much thought into the grand franchise they’re going to
build. And guess what? If the first movie doesn’t work there is no franchise,
so I’m always concentrated on making the best, best possible movie right now.”
@43 – Knute Rockne,
American Football coach (d. 1931; plane crash)
“I don’t like to
lose, and that isn’t so much because it is just a football game, but because
defeat means the failure to reach your objective. I don’t want a football
player who doesn’t take defeat to heart, who laughs it off with the thought,
“Oh, well, there’s another Saturday.” The trouble in American life
today, in business as well as in sports, is that too many people are afraid of
competition. The result is that in some circles people have come to sneer at
success if it costs hard work and training and sacrifice.”
41 – Drew Houston,
American internet entrepreneur
@39 – John Garfield,
