Today’s Thoughts
Snow, snow, more snow. Flag got about
8” last night. It’s been snowing most of the morning and it has been heavy
most of the time. The only mall in Flagstaff closed yesterday and will not reopen
until Saturday at the earliest. I-40 is closed from Ash Fork to Flagstaff due
to snow. The HOA scraped the pavemenetshowed up around 10am to clear the
street an around noon with a snowblower to clear the main sidewalk and a
couple of guys to clear the resident sidewalk to the main sidewalk. Supreme Court will soon rule on
Colorado’s move to remove Trump from the ballot in Colorado. I am not a Trump
fan. I grew up in Colorado. I also am fairly open-minded in politics. After listening
to the arguments of both sides on CNN at the Supreme Court, I don’t think Colorado
will win. This is a much bigger deal than just Trump, and there are too many
scenarios will this would destroy our county. |
Weird History…
Albert Einstein Refused To Be
President Of Israel Albert Einstein was one of the most
influential scientists and thinkers of all time. He made groundbreaking
discoveries in physics, mathematics, and philosophy that still shape our
understanding of the universe today. But did you know that he also refused to
be president of Israel? In 1952, after being
offered the position, Einstein declined due to his belief that he lacked the
necessary experience for such a role. Despite this, his legacy continues to
live on in both science and politics. His refusal to accept the post shows us
how even someone as brilliant as him can sometimes make decisions based on
modesty rather than ambition. It's an inspiring reminder that no matter who
we are, it's important to stay true to ourselves and our values. |
Civil War Facts
Grant's Wilderness Campaign By the spring of 1864, Gen. Ulysses
S. Grant, now commander of all Union armies, was set on nothing less than the
capture of Richmond, Virginia, and the total surrender of all Confederate
forces. Though it lacked a conclusive victor, the three-day Battle in the
Wilderness was a crucial first step in Grant's push toward Richmond. Grant
counted more casualties than Lee, but unlike the South, the North had readily
available replacements, allowing Grant to continue attacking Lee's positions.
A skirmish at the Spotsylvania Court House in May resulted in 30,000
casualties from both sides and was also deemed inconclusive, even though both
parties declared victory. Grant's men attacked Confederate
forces again in June 1864 at Cold Harbor. The Union lost about 7,000 men in
20 minutes. Lee suffered fewer casualties, but his army could never recover
from Grant's back-to-back attacks. This was the Confederacy's last clear
victory under Lee's command. |
