Today’s Thoughts
Nice weather on this
President’s Day.
It’s a Federal
Holiday so I’m staying home. A tiny protest of a retired Federal Employee who
still believes Federal Holidays should be time off work for retailers and other
non-essential employees to honor our country.
Snow is almost gone
around town, except for the parking lot piles and the snow in shady areas.
Arizona could have the
1st National Animal Abuse Registry. It would be much like the
sex-offender registry. Great idea!
Decoding Common Phrases…
When Pigs Fly
“When pigs fly” is a popular idiom used to express skepticism
or disbelief in the likelihood of a particular event or scenario occurring. The
phrase conjures an image of an impossible feat – pigs, naturally unable to fly,
taking to the air – to emphasize the improbability of the situation in
question.
It’s often employed humorously to respond to outlandish
claims or overly optimistic plans, highlighting their unrealistic nature. This
saying is a vivid example of hyperbole in language, using absurdity to make a
point about the unlikelihood of an event.
Despite its playful tone, “when pigs fly” effectively
communicates a serious level of doubt about the feasibility or reality of a
given situation.
America’s Top
Attractions
1900s: White City, Denver,
Colorado
The 1900s was a decade that
saw a surge in the popularity of amusement parks. Lakeside, a small town near
Denver, has one of the country’s oldest. Originally called White City, the park
opened next to Lake Rhoda in 1908 to a crowd of 50,000 people. It had a
swimming beach, casino, theater, racetrack, and public pool as well as
traditional fairground rides. Lakeside Amusement Park is still in operation today.
Historical Facts
about Native Americans…
Indigenous People Didn't Become Citizens Until The 1920s
One of the most historic moments for Indigenous people was
the passing of the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924. This granted citizenship to
all of the Indigenous people in the United States.
The main reason it was passed was to recognize the thousands
of Native Americans who risked their lives serving in World War I.
Since Native Americans were the first people to inhabit the
United States, it makes sense that they would contribute to several useful
inventions.
Things such as rubber, corn, kayaks, farming, and mouth wash
all have Native American roots. Spinning top toys were observed as far back as
the Lewis and Clark expedition.
