Today’s Thoughts
Cold last
night. Warming up nicely today. Snow and
icicles should start melting soon.
Just before the Super
Bowl there was a shooting at Joel Osteen’s Mega Church. Two were injured and
the female shooter was killed. She had an AR-15 type rifle. News is slow in coming
out.
This Super Bowl may
have seen another Dynasty (Chiefs) in the making. It was a nail-biter OT game
that gave the Chiefs 2-in-a-row Championships. Did you know there were 2
Native-Americans on the Chief’s team? Center Creed Humphrey is a Potawatomi
Nation citizen and Long Snapper James Winchester is a Choctaw Nation citizen.
That’s cool.
Commercials were
decent, but none were that memorable from my viewing.
Usher and his guests
did a very good halftime show. Nice to see he brought quite a few other famous
singers onto the stage. The Roller
skating on stage was awesome, although I was waiting for someone to slip off,
which thankfully didn’t happen. Overall a good long event.
Decoding Common
Phrases…
Hit the Sack
“Hit the sack” is a colloquial expression commonly used to
indicate going to bed or starting the process of falling asleep. The phrase
originates from a time when mattresses were often sacks filled with straw or
other soft materials, making the action of “hitting” the sack a final step
before lying down to sleep.
It’s frequently used to convey a sense of weariness or the
need to rest after a long day or exhausting activity. The saying encapsulates
the universal human experience of seeking rest and the comfort of one’s bed at
the end of the day. In contemporary usage, “hit the sack” remains a casual and
relatable way of saying that one is ready to end the day and retreat to the
comfort of sleep.
Civil War Facts
The
Confederacy falls
Transportation
and supply blockades caused severe food shortages in the South. Famished troops
began leaving Gen. Robert E. Lee's last positions. In a desperate attempt to
replace the deserters, Confederate President Jefferson Davis approved enlisting
and arming enslaved people—the measure was never enforced.
