Today’s Thoughts
Lots of clouds but
no moisture in the forecast.
The landing was shaky, but the private machine landed on the moon. Odysseus
is now sitting on the South Pole of the moon. Wow! It sure brought me back to
all the early missions up to the landing of astronauts on the surface during the
Nixon administration.
Our discussion group meets tomorrow afternoon to discuss The US and the Middle
East. It should be a great discussion. I
have lots of reading to do before we meet.
If God wanted us to
vote…
Why pay money to
have your family tree traced; go into politics and
your opponents will
do it for you. ~Author unknown~
Politicians are
people who, when they see light at the end of the tunnel,
go out and buy some
more tunnel. ~John Quinton~
Politics is the
gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by
promising to protect each from the other. ~Oscar Ameringer~
America’s Top
Attractions
1910s: Navy Pier, Chicago,
Illinois
One of Chicago’s best-known
landmarks, the historic pier opened to the public in 1916 and was known as the
Municipal Pier. Stretching out into Lake Michigan, it was used as a dock for
freighters, passenger traffic, as well as for recreational purposes. It was
renamed the Navy Pier in 1927 in tribute to navy personnel who were based there
during the First World War. Today the tourist hot spot is home to a 200-foot
Ferris wheel, museums, theaters, a cinema, and restaurants.
Historical Facts
about Native Americans…
What Totem Poles Actually Represent
Totem poles are one of the most important pieces of art made
by Native Americans, but not everyone knows their purpose.
Christian missionaries thought they were symbols of Native
gods, but they actually represent family status. Animals that are special to
the family, such as a grizzly bear or eagle, are usually carved in totem poles
to memorialize their ancestors.
